Independent Games Festival finalists News

PC Xbox 360 PlayStation 3 Wii Retro
News by Dan Pearson

8 January, 2009

The organisers of the Independent Games Festival have announced their shortlist of finalists for 2009.

The awards are usually a source of great interest, often plucking a stone-cold-classic from the depths of obscurity. Previous years have brought the likes of Braid, Castle Crashers, N+ and World of Goo to wider attention.

You've probably heard of at least a few of this year's contenders, but we're willing to bet that there's secret treasure to unearth. Don't expect a finished product from everything on the list, however, as some of these don't even have websites. Links are included where appropriate. (We're keeping a particular eye on Zeno Clash, Dyson and Machinarium because we're suckers for pretties.)

Thanks to Rock, Paper, Shotgun for doing the hard work collecting the links.

Good to see PixelJunk Eden in three categories. It truly deserves more visibility.

Uhhh for some strange reason I can't get a grip on, You Have To Burn The Rope isn't the only nomination for every category? Why is this?

YHTBTR is probably the shortest 'game' you will ever play. Innovative because it is so simple maybe?

You should be keeping an eye on Dyson because it was written by one of your own forumites!

Just looked at the Night Game link - didn't realise they were bringing Cave Story out on Wii Ware!! That game deserves to be out in a wider audience - I bet it'll do really well. Now if only they were doing an xbox 360 port... :0)
