Just played the multiplayer demo on Xbox Live! and as the review states it seems to me that the game is a direct copy of Battlefield 2 on the PC even down to the squad mechanics. Yes, it is very brown and yes it has all been done before but at least its only £29.99 at various retailers and has dedicated server support even if it is just one map.

What do we do ... buy this or wait for one of the other shooters Army of Two, Rainbow Six Vegas 2 etc. etc.

No mention of Squad mechanics in the multiplayer? Surely quite a big part of it?

Anyway I was horrified at the single player demo. The multiplayer demo was improved and once into the groove much better. The City level being notably the better map for a novice. Brought back fond memories of BF2:MC. So I've a copy on my desk waiting to go home with me - good ol' shopto :)

I had that in the multiplayer demo a couple of times. Couldn't connect to any of them. I could connect to a game a friend was already in though bizarrely.

Tried playing the demo yesterday. Didn't really enjoy it... Quite often I'd die within less than 5 seconds of spawning... I think someone had set up a sentry or turret or something right near our spawn. Or he was just spawncamping. That was annoying, no one was in squads, and generally it just wasn't BF2.

Played the SP demo. Didn't like it. Played the MP demo a while back and didn't like it. Played it again today and I must say, it's pretty good actually. Sure it has huge maps with loads of players but I can look past that, nothing is perfect after all. It has flaws but nothing that can't be patched. Might pick it up tomorrow.

25 EG'ers on one team? 25 Witty people making funny comments against racist pricks on the other team? Can hardly wait. :p

I loved the demos.

I don't really see much to criticise here. Brown colors? Welcome to the battlefield. Too easy on "Normal"? Play at a harder level.

This is a definite buy for me.

I do. I played Call of Duty 4 and found it to be generic crap. This game at least gives a better sense of freedom and the drones add a bit of variety.

Will there be a pc review?

I enjoyed the 360 MP demo (don't let the single player one put you off), but try as I might, I just can't get comfortable playing this kind of game on a pad.

No, there is not a single-player skirmish mode. The only way to play against bots is to play the campaign. Straight from Kaos' own FAQ: No co-op/multiplayer/skirmish bots.

Voice is restricted to Squads only - makes sense considering team sizes.

Had a little play last night. It's one of those games which patches on first boot up on release day - nice - not sure what it did mind. First impressions are good - you get a good idea of what to expect from the MP demo. Single player I found a refreshing change to some of the more restrictive FPS's out there. Will play it through, but as noted Medium is a bit on the easy side. Lots of fun though.

No the engine isn't great and no it isn't all that polished. It is a lot of fun though and there are shed loads of good ideas in there.

I agree with DrDamn. It's the fun we've had on the PC before in BF2 but from the comfort of your own couch. CoD4 is the better game but if you want the big battles this is the way to go.

I reckon the patch is for the 50 player limit as the game box only says 32 player.

The game play looks quite interesting, but I'll never buy it. Yet another game with simplified, retarded them-and-us pro US politics, dreamed up by someone with no imagination, no grasp of geo-politics, and one Republican donating foot in the past. Jesus.

And why, in the single player, can't I play as this ridiculous 'Red Star Alliance'?

Fair enough mate, but that's the single player. This game is all about multiplayer.

I would say that the campaign in this is better than Battlefields, although that's not saying much.

The feeling I get from the text and story is the stupidity and futility of war. While the main single player campaign is from the US/Coalition side the opponents are not portrayed as bad guys as such. In fact the text seems to highlight the fact they are just trying to survive like us. Admittedly I'm only a little way in and it may get all patriotic but the name of the final level is possibly telling too.

Yes, the whole political storyline in this game is pretty impressive. Much of it is hidden in the "extras" section, where the whole timeline to the events in the game is explained. The game tries to follow the consequences of ever scarcer oil, and it's certainly not simply good v. bad.

Fair enough, I'll be more than happy to be proved wrong. Just been sick, the last few years, of the number of US dev'd games aimed at US teenagers that feed on American political insecurity . Personally i'd rather be shooting at aliens, robots, or even god forbid dinosaurs than 2d conscripted grunts.

So I might give the demo a go...but really I'm waiting for Haze...

Why would you want to go down ladders? Jump off and deploy your parachute! (A button) :)

While the above is true FPS have always had problems with going down ladders. It's probably a bit more important here as you can get some quite big ones.

Most fun demo I've ever played especialy on the BIG 'Oil Field' map.Plenty of tactics and strategy to keep your brain buzzing.
Graphics are ok,sound is good, especialy when a helicopter goes full bore rockets and guns on the battle field.
KAOS servers are good with no noticable lag.
The only complaint is that shots sometime don't seem to hit people even when at point blank range or sniping from afar.Probably patched in the full version though hopefuly.
Think it's a fun buy for me.It's very playable once you get into it.
