Friends list for MotorStorm

Chums update available now.

Sony has confirmed to Eurogamer that dirty racer MotorStorm has been given a new in-game friends list to help you keep track of your muddy buddies.

The patch went live last night, and once downloaded lets you see which of your pals are around and what they're up to. And, rather obviously, you'll be able to invite them over for a spot of off-road mayhem.

However, if you're not on someone's buddy list you won't be able to join their game, stopping unwanted visitors ruining your fun. Apparently it's just Italians playing at the moment - as you might imagine, what with breaking the retail street date of PS3 and all that.

MotorStorm will be available on Friday at the PlayStation 3 launch, and is one of the best games in the line-up.

Pop over to our MotorStorm review to see what Tom thought if its muddy spoils.

    Sounds cool.

Just a shame this isn't a standard feature for all PS3 games.

    /obvious question.

Are you going to re-review this to?

You know with added Online component and all?

    Oh yeah

Is this Cross game invite or can you only invite people who are inside the game.

    /confused.

The way it reads suggests, you'll be able to message people who are in the PS3 "dashboard" as well a people playing Motostorm. So I'd guess if other games let you read your messages from in game, then you would get the invite there too.

I am not sure such a small added feature really deserves another review, what's it gonna get, another 1/4 of a point?

It's interesting that what is standard for every Xbox title is picked out in a specific article when it happens on the PS£, shows how far they have still to go with their online service.

EDIT: PS£ was actually unintentional, but as it's so appropriate I'll think I'll leave it :)

  • Dizzy #6 5 years ago

I just feels weird they have to add this basic feature to games.
  • PearOfAnguish #7 5 years ago

Now you can communicate with other PS3 users.

    All ten of them!

Any news if the Jap version is getting online update?

No but the Japaneese Motorstorm review never had online play fair enough it might not sway the score or the overall impression at all like GeoW, heck the score might go down for all i care, but i feel this game deserves a re-review moreso than Resistance did because of it's added feature of online play from the originally reviewed game.

...and surely EG could have slipped this whole article into one sentence in the Motorstorm re-review?

"Now you can communicate with other PS3 users.

What, five more joined the queue?
  • PearOfAnguish #11 5 years ago

    "don't be bitter ;P"

Bitter about what? The ability to make friends lists?
Truly, the next generation is here!

"What, five more joined the queue? "

Yeah, they couldn't offload them on Ebay.

At least it suggests this will be a standard feature soon, and it's possible to retrofit at least for some of the existing games.

All the Sony bash was fun for a while, but18 months on it's getting a little tired.

Yes Sony have screwed up on many aspects with the PS3. But isn't it time we just sit and enjoy the games!

As for network support, of course Sony have alot of catching up to do, network controls and protocals aren't cheap to develope. MS has over 15 years worth of network experience and patented technology to call on.

Sony could have put together a network as good Live, but how much would it have cost! We'd be stuck with a console that they had to charge £700 for and probably a £100 yearly subscription!

So if you want top notch network gameing get a 360, if your more interested in R&C, Jax, Tekken, FF and Wipeout then get a PS3

If you want everything get both systems or decide which is more important

/EDIT - Spelling (and yes I put speelings to start with!)/

And by "get" you mean "get next year" I guess.
  • Moz #17 5 years ago

    @Dizzy,

well yeh if there's nothing on the PS3 now that you want then don't get it. Just dont see the need for the all moaning (and yes I have beenguilty of it in the past - and i'm sure there will be issues that get me hot under the collar in the future)

    ---

People often go on about volumes of games, but it was the volume of games on the PS2 that made me get rid of it 2 1/2 years ago, cos you had to read about way too much rubbish to find the games that sounded good. I regret this to a degree now, as I loved the first Jax and missed out on the sequals

People trading them back in on launch day would be the absolute best lmao

Instead you're stuck with a £425 console with no decent next gen online service which is something the Xbox360 does for £146 less. With the Xbox360 we'll even be able to play PC owners. Sony's online might be free but boy does it show.

    Damnit!!

"With the Xbox360 we'll even be able to play PC owners."

    1) I highly doubt PC owners would want to challenge you people.

    2) Since we use a keyboard & mouse, we'll have a hellofan advantage =]

    Lmao

    What's that? ... PS3 supports wireless keyboard & mouse?...

    Hmm....

Meanwhile back at the Aussie launch non-event

"12:50 p.m.: Back at GameSpot AU HQ, and we've turned on our PS3 to see whether the firmware upgrade (1.6) has been released yet. No luck"

That is an interesting comment, because what the 360 does for £146 less is ZERO multiplayer and a far inferior list of compatible prev gen games.
If you add the cost of Live Gold multiplayer, the 360 costs almost as much - with no BR, just 12GB of space and no wifi / HDMI to boot
