Fresh Rock Band list ahoy

EA name-drops.

EA has tried to sign us up for its Rock Band this afternoon by releasing a fresh list of tracks for the game.

It coincides with frequent announcements from collaborators EA, MTV and Harmonix that either new bands or fresh brands have been roped in to appearing in the game.

Most recently rockers Grateful Dead were added to the roster, and will be lending 18 of their best licks to the title. They follow the likes of Metallica, The Who, David Bowie, as well as manufacturer legends Fender, Boss and Roland.

We also recently heard the hugely anticipated rhythm romp was delayed in Europe until Q1 2008, although a silver lining confirmed it would fully localised for each territory.

The confirmed track list so far looks like this:

  • Blue Oyster Cult "Don't Fear the Reaper" (Master)
  • The Who "Won't Get Fooled Again" (Master)
  • David Bowie "Suffragette City" (Master)
  • Black Sabbath "Paranoid" (Cover)
  • The Ramones "Blitzkrieg Pop" (Master)
  • Mountain "Mississippi Queen" (Cover)
  • Bon Jovi "Wanted Dead or Alive" (Master)
  • Rush "Tom Sawyer" (Cover)
  • Nirvana "In Bloom" (Master)
  • Stone Temple Pilots "Vasoline" (Master)
  • Weezer "Say It Ain't So" (Master)
  • The Hives "Main Offender" (Master)
  • The Strokes "Reptilla" (Master)
  • Queens of the Stone Age "Go with the Flow" (Master)
  • Foo Fighters "Learn to Fly" (Master)
  • Metallica "Enter Sandman" (Master)
  • Deep Purple "Highway Star" (Master)
  • Faith No More "Epic" (Master)
  • Jet "Are You Gonna Be My Girl" (Master)
  • OK Go! "Here It Goes Again (Master)
  • Radiohead "Creep" (Master)
  • Rolling Stones "Gimme Shelter" (Master)
  • The Clash "Should I Stay or Should I Go" (Master)
  • Smashing Pumpkins "Cherub Rock" (Master)
  • Beastie Boys "Sabotage" (Master)
  • Nine Inch Nails "The Hand That Feeds" (Master)
  • Garbage "I Think I'm Paranoid" (Master)
  • The Pixies "Wave of Mutilation" (Master)
  • Yeah Yeah Yeahs "Maps" (Master)
  • Hole "Celebrity Skin" (master)

Rock Band is due out on PS3, 360, and PS2 in the first quarter of next year.

More and more impressed by the line-up for this, I just hope the game play stands up.

With every new Rock Band announcement, I'm gradually getting more and more interested in Guitar Hero 3

watch me name drop: this was ace at leipzig

Rush track = instapurchase. Some top top tunes on there.
  • Freelancepolice #6 5 years ago

Guitar hero 3 looked like an indie version of guitar hero.

Looking awesome i must say. Specially as everything i've heard about GH3 is kinda crap (i didn't like GH2 much, but GH was perfect) and apparently Aerosmith are heading up GH4, which is just a gay idea in itself.
  • PlugMonkey #8 5 years ago

Blimey that's a good list, and almost all masters too.

God knows what brooza is wanting from a tracklist if there's nothing on there to interest...
  • brooza #9 5 years ago

On this, the only ones I'm really interested in are:

Blue Oyster Cult "Don't Fear the Reaper" (Master)
The Who "Won't Get Fooled Again" (Master)
    Metallica "Enter Sandman" (Master)
    Deep Purple "Highway Star" (Master)

    On GHIII:

    "The Metal" – Tenacious D
"The Number of the Beast" – Iron Maiden
    "One" – Metallica
"Paint It, Black" – The Rolling Stones
    "Raining Blood" – Slayer
"Rock and Roll All Nite" – Kiss
"Rock You Like a Hurricane" – Scorpions
    "School's Out" – Alice Cooper
"Talk Dirty to Me" - Poison
"Through the Fire and Flames" – DragonForce
"Welcome to the Jungle" – Guns N' Roses

Rock Band can feature oh so many artists but GHIII has Slayer. Fight over.

But then again I will be buying both anyway.

brooza - Ah! Old skool rock. Fair einough! I have to say, that GHIII list looks pretty special as well. I took one look at the GH Rocks The 80s tracklist and thought "Hmm. Looks like everyone's saving all their best songs for they're own games." I don't think I was far wrong. GHIII has more kick ass 80s classics than the 80s version did!

From Rock Band I'm also rather fancying:

Blue Oyster Cult "Don't Fear the Reaper" (Master)
    David Bowie "Suffragette City" (Master)
    Faith No More "Epic" (Master)
The Clash "Should I Stay or Should I Go" (Master)
    Beastie Boys "Sabotage" (Master)
Nine Inch Nails "The Hand That Feeds" (Master)

I wouldn't like to choose which is the best list at this stage, but I can't say I find either off-putting. They both look better than both GHI and GHII.

Edit: Does GHIII have original artists are they still stuck with covers? Also I think they've made a big booboo holding Rock Band back till after xmas.

Pixies - Wave of mutilation - Cool! :)
  • Monkey_Puncher #13 5 years ago

Only problem I can see with Rockband is it probably won't be a particuarly great single player game, I'm hoping I'm wrong but I could see Guitar Hero winning on the single player front.

Really good looking track listing though!

"Rush track = instapurchase. Some top top tunes on there."

I'll get it only if they have the whole of 2112 on it. Otherwise it's GHIII for me ^^
  • PlugMonkey #15 5 years ago

Monkey Puncher - I can't see any logical reason that Rock Band shouldn't be just as good in single player. With the guitar, at least, it'll be virtually identical.

I just looked up the GHIII tracklist and Mississipi Queen by Mountain and Sabotage by the Beastie Boys seem to be in both games. Interesting.
  • ProtoformX #16 5 years ago

That's it. Buying both. This level of goodness cannot be ignored.
  • black2 #17 5 years ago

Too many good songs on there. As often comes up in these threads, it's not about SONGS I LIKE but songs that translate really well to an interesting and fun to play track, eg Won't Get Fooled Again has lots of variety throughout for all parts . Kristan's article on Boston being excellent level designers was spot on.

"Does GHIII have original artists are they still stuck with covers?"

Over half of the tracks are masters. Helicopter by Bloc Party has been confirmed as a new addition, and Tom Morello (RATM, Audioslave guitarist) is confirmed as one of the remaining bosses you have to duel against.

Rock Band looks amazing too. The drumming videos for Celebrity Skin look really good.

    EDIT

Bulls On Parade master track has now been confirmed. BULLS ON PARADE!

I'm hoping the Rock Band guitar works with GH3. I'll buy GH3 solus then. Both look good, just hope the HDTV lag is sorted.
