Free Springsteen songs for GHWT

To celebrate The Boss' new album.

Activision will be bolstering Guitar Hero World Tour with a pair of songs by legendary rocker Bruce "The Boss" Springsteen.

The tracks - 1975 classic "Born to Run" and newcomer "My Lucky Day" - will be free to download from 27th January. It's all to celebrate the same-day launch of his new album Working on a Dream, from which "My Lucky Day" is pulled.

The songs will stop being free from 5th February, mind you, and cost 320 Microsoft Points (GBP 2.70 / EUR 3.85) on Xbox Live, or 200 Wii Points (approx GBP 1.40 / EUR 2) each on Wii. UK pricing for PlayStation 3 has yet to be set.

Springsteen has apparently sold over 120 million albums worldwide according to Wikipedia, which is about as reliable as a weather forecast. We even know some of his songs.

Damn! Now I probably have to get the game at some point.

Free Songs? Yes, thank you. More please.

I'm not a fan of anyone who has a nickname like "The Boss". I prefer a little modesty.

Still, free tracks, and not a terrible musician. I'll take them :)

    @ DFawkes

He didn't give it to himself, to be fair.
  • DFawkes #5 3 years ago

Yeah I know, but he accepted it. I'd have went "Nah, I'll seem like a dick if I stick with that." and stuck with something else. But I'll give you that, he didn't choose it. Who did though?

    @ DFawkes / Raz76

    Besides, it's totally deserved :p

    @DFawkes

    From Wikipedia:

"In the late 1960s, Springsteen performed briefly in a power trio known as Earth, playing in clubs in New Jersey. Springsteen acquired the nickname "The Boss" during this period as when he played club gigs with a band he took on the task of collecting the band's nightly pay and distributing it amongst his bandmates."

    And I agree with Evolution

Fair enough, it is a great nickname considering how he got it, and the potential fights averted because of it ("Hey, I didn't get my cut!";).

Plus those tracks on offer are alright. Certainly good enough that I'd consider buying them, so for free they're a bargain :)

Hey its free and "Born to Run" is a pretty good song so I'm getting it.

My favourite bumper-sticker of all time spotted (unsuprisingly) in New York:
    "My only boss is Bruce."

    GHWT FTW!

    How can you question:
"In the day we sweat it out on the streets of a runaway American Dream,
At night we ride through mansions of glory on suicide machines"

I know that's how I spend MY days...

Born to Run is genius. I hope this is the start of a long Springsteen-GHWT relationship. Just imagine, Born In The USA, Dancing In The Dark, No Surrender...geez. That'd be killer.
  • Zomoniac #12 3 years ago

Bah, I was hoping for Radio Nowhere, the opening track from his last album, which is fucking awesome.
  • udat #13 3 years ago

Eurogamer should remind us of this on the 27th because I will totally forget.
  • Raz76 #14 3 years ago

    @ DFawkes

    They are indeed :-)
  • KrispyBacon #15 3 years ago

Born to Run is my all time favorite song. Getting it for free is a bonus.

    Less Geezer Rock please, Activision.
  • CitizenErazed #17 3 years ago

More geezer rock, please. Fed up of reading track listings that look like the game was aimed at 17 year old metal kiddies. Some more proper, decent, old-fashioned rock, please.
  • skybluesam86 #18 3 years ago

What udat said. I won't remember this on the 27th!
Dancing In The Dark would also be nice. And The River. And Mary's Place. And The Rising. And Radio Nowhere. And Rosalita. And I could go on forever.
GH: Boss Edition would be epic!

I didn't even know he had a new album coming - thanks for telling me :). I've been a fan since the mid 80s, though I've admittedly been a bit late in buying most of his recent albums - and to be honest I didn't actually care all that much for most of the tracks on his latest four studio albums, with the (rather unexpected) exception of We Shall Overcome: The Seeger Sessions.

WHAT, AMAZING! The Boss is king! Hail!
