Free MAG add-on next week

Sniper Rifles! Light Armour!

There's brand new and free content headed to gargantuan PS3 online shooter MAG next week.

Arriving Thursday, 29th April is the Fast Attack Pack. Inside are three Special Edition Sniper Rifles, which look and behave differently to what's out there already, and Improved Light Armour for each faction.

There's a picture of a MAG soldier using the new pieces over on the European PlayStation blog.

MAG strode on to PS3 in January this year and wowed the world with impressive 256-player online battles. Catch up with our MAG review to find out more.

    I love MAG and always great with new and free content... but I would like more maps.

    I agree. New guns and kit are nice and all, but the repetition of maps on this game is not good. I haven't played it for over a month, as I was fed up of playing the same couple of maps again and again............and again.........and again.................ad infinitum

    Not trying to come across as a dick, but are people playing MAG?

    What are the numbers like these days?

    @flaming-carrot

    Have you tried changing to another faction. I know it'll be the same map but I hear that playing it from another factions POV changes the experience somewhat.

    @Stifler

    Apparently, the number of people playing has dropped significantly.

    I have also heard that numbers have dropped dramatically, with people struggling to find games at times. Personally, I have not been on there as I have enjoyed playing BC2 too much.

    @ M_of_the_sys

    I might take your advice, and try changing factions for a while. It is just a shame that you have to lose all your progress and unlocks to be able to do this. Kind of a kick in the teeth, considering the time it takes to level up.

    I've been on it the past few weeks and all the rooms have been full. shame so few people use the headset.

    Probably takes a minute to get into a game

    Yeah dunno why you all got negged; free reskinned weapons and armour are all well and good, but what MAG badly needs is some new maps/modes. They could easily have had a tenner off me for some proper DLC, but it's a bit late now and I think the same goes for a lot of others - people have moved on.

    Numbers are badly down, but it doesn't seem to have affected the time it takes to get in a game. Yet.

    If anyone here is still playing, head over to the MAG thread - there's a regular night going.

    @ThemisB : I agree on many of your points. MAG is great, has an impressive scope and I'm still enjoying it a lot... but it also suffers under some poor design decitions. Worst is the way it forces the player to stick to one PMC and always play the same end/role on the maps. I understand the thoughts behhind this, but it causes people to get tired of the maps quicker. Zipper should have allowed people to create a extra career slot when reaching level 40 or 50 (for example). This would give more variarity for players while still maintain some level of PMC-loyalty.
    Documentation (or rather the total lack of) doesn't help either.

    @flaming-carrot

    If you Vet over after you reach level 60, you get 10% or 15% added to your exp after each match. Not done it myself though.

    @ThemisB

    "Yeah dunno why you all got negged"

    I think it's just someone negging everyone down for no reason.
    Anyway, once BTH goes back to SVER, I'll jump on MAG again. After you went to Raven, I tried to grind out my last couple of levels to Vet over as well but I couldn't stand the random matches. It was enough to drive me away.

    I played with Yaster, european community mod and sony employee, on Monday. He noticed a drop in numbers, BC2 probably responsible in part.

    I'll have a look Thursday, but I sense this update may have some negative impacts on games. I see people trying out these new rifles, which would result in more of a squad staying back and sniping. I always say if you want to capture something, you need people there. Attackers may not do well for a short time.

    Yay, just what the game needs: a Sniper invasion! Come to think of it, I haven't encountered one exceptional sniper in my 150ish hours career.. Mw, bc, kz all have someone sticking out amongst his kind. This game has zero, most likely because the size of the maps and the objective focus.

    I like that there's new guns and whatnot, but can't say that I agree with the order that they've been released.

    There were already far too many LMG users and the first pack included new, better LMGs, now we have new and improved sniper rifles for those who think they're playing a deathmatch and not an objective capturing game.

    The vast majority of wins/losses aren't decided by player skill or any tactical decision/mistake from either side but purely by the numbers. If too many of your team sit on the hill with their rifles, you won't have enough bodies on the front line to contest objectives and you will lose every time.

    Assuming that we're going to see new assault weapons and new gadgets in later updates here's some must have features.

    * some sort of block preventing people without mics from taking officer roles. A leader without a mic is a serious liability for the faction.
    * new maps
    * character selection. I don't like that in order to experience another faction I have to sacrifice all of my progress with my current faction, this is going to become increasingly important as new weapons and equipment are made available to the different factions and they become more specialised.
  • icematt12 #13 2 years ago

    One of the things in 1.05 update was that people with mics would have a greater chance of being a leader role, but not always. They surely can't stop you using one feature beacuse you don't have an optional piece of hardware. Some people/organisations are bound to use the human rights arguement.
