Free LittleBigPlanet DLC next week

Pumpkin mask and spacesuit.

Developer Media Molecule will be offering free Halloween (pumpkin) Mask and Launch Spacesuit costumes for LittleBigPlanet next week.

These are to celebrate both the spooky season and launch of the dimple-cheeked PlayStation 3 game, according to the US PlayStation blog, and will be available from 6th November to 19th November

On top of limited and seasonal costumes, LittleBigPlanet will also be treated to free community-created outfits, plus those stitched together by Media Molecule.

The latter, however, will cost; USD 0.99 for bog standard but brilliant outfits, such as lizards or gorillas; USD 1.99 for premium costumes, like the Solid Snake and Sephiroth get-ups; or an unknown amount for super-duper rare items such as the Media Molecule t-shirt. There are pictures of each on the PS blog.

Four basic outfits will often be bundled together for USD 2.99, apparently, while quartets of premium picks will be packed for USD 5.99.

Costumes are but one of the types of downloadable content for LittleBigPlanet; creation materials, gameplay enhancements and, of course, levels will expand the world as time goes on. More on these soon, we're told.

LittleBigPlanet is due for release here next Wednesday 5th November. That's also Bonfire Night, so be careful not to blow up your hands or face, because you'll need those to play the game with.

Download content is great but I would like to actually have the game !!

What the heck is Little Big Planet? Is it anything to do with Little Big Adventure? Why hasn't there been any news articles for this? Is it a niche game that they don't want anyone to buy?

I'm sorry, I couldn't help myself. I suppose getting extra dlc is worth reporting, which I'll probably download just in case it's for a limited time.

@Dfawkes. I think the spacesuit stuff is only available for a set time.

Not sure I'll be buying many costumes (even as awesome as Spehiroth and Old Snake are), but free seasonal stuff is a good idea.

wow a free pumpkin a week after halloween, BREAKING NEWS. give the LBP a rest please, why arent we seeing 3 storys a day about GOW2??? (not that i want to). or at least bury it on the ps3 tab rather than the front page.

    @chrisjm
Try looking at the LBP and GoW2 game pages on here. In terms of news articles, vids and screen shots the two games are about even. It's not like it's difficult to ignore the articles if you want to.

    See what you mean :)
the dates are more spread out though.

It did look nice running in HMV too...

A spacesuit, 40 years after landing on the Moon...the bastards!!!

If you are fed up of LBP, stop fucking reading them...the "Free LittleBigPlanet DLC next week" title should have given it away.

a spacesuit doesnt go decompose after the event ;)

actually i am interested in it, as it looks great. but there is so much on here lately that its newsworthyness is questionable

ps3owner - omg USD 0.99!!! jesus!!! how could they charge sooooooo much??!!?!
  • ps3owner #16 4 years ago

moonprince... that's the point of "mirco transactions" you moron. it's so little you won't notice it... however they will notice it in profits big time and after a few years you will have spend quite a lot of money on it. (that's if you buy all that stuff of course). LBP will cost you £39.99 and then another XXX amount over the years.... I am sure whatever I post it won't make sense to you!

I might - might - pay a quid to dress up as Sephiroth, but that's it. It seems a bit cheeky to charge for tiny things like this.

Still, the game is brilliant. Can you actually create your own costumes usually?
  • KreyAtiv #18 4 years ago

Spacesuit seems decent enough. Just hope my pre-ordered copy of the game arrives in time to make use of the offer of the free costumes.

    /Hands Fab4 a knife and runs
  • dr_lha #20 4 years ago

Triggerhappytel: You can make up your own costumes from the various clothing parts you collect in the game, but it wouldn't be possible to self create something like the spacesuit or pumpkin head. BTW LBP is fucking awesome, and they finally seem to have got the server issues sorted out last night. Be glad you Euro dwellers are getting it a week after us US dwellers, because we should have worked all the bugs out for you.

I personally don't see the point of paying for costumes, if other people buy them, you'll all look the same - like sheep.

I'm all for free content as its a nice extra to have, would prefer it be accesories (hats, glasses, etc), but paying for costumes, however small the cost may be, still seems unreasonable.

Just imagine how many Snake sackboys are going to be running around the day the costume goes on sale. I'd rather stick out from the crowd, rather than follow it.

    >I might - might - pay a quid to dress up as Sephiroth, but that's it.

    Oh dear...
  • dr_lha #23 4 years ago

Joco84: I'm guessing that most of the pay clothing will be collections of accessories that when used entirely make up the character, but can be mixed and matched with other accessories. I know the Nariko costume I got for pre-ordering was, so you can have a Nariko with Solid Snake moustach for example.

I'll agree its fairly pointless, so if you don't want it don't pay for it. With the user created levels this game already gives you so much DLC "for free".
