Michael Jackson outfits for BF Heroes News

Electronic Arts is releasing a pair of outfits for Battlefield Heroes apparently designed to resemble Michael Jackson's costumes for "Smooth Criminal" and "Bad".
The Smooth Suit and Thuggin Outfit are available this month according to the official website and EA has told MTV that both are free.
Battlefield Heroes finally went live last week and we'll have a review up soon. Michael Jackson finally... no, much too soon.

I logged in to see if they still charge for it. They do, but in VP (earned in-game) not BattleFunds (bought with real money)... Still, since the items only last for 7 days, I don't like spending my VP's on a tribute item, no matter if I was a fan or not.
That 'free' annoncement is still very much debatable.

Except that releasing something like that will draw a hell of a lot of curious people to go and ogle the costumes. Also, this is essentially free advertising on every gaming site, blog and forum that mentions it. While they won't make any money off microtransactions, you can be sure as hell their advertising revenue will sky-rocket. So, yeah, I don't think this is purely a 'tribute'.

"have you seen the front cover of OK! magazine this week ?" Can't say that I have. It happens to be a magazine that I don't peruse due to not wanting to. But then you'd expect it more from a magazine.

Unfortunately I have. I noticed it on the shelf while I was queuing to pay for shopping, and couldn't believe that they had the brass balls to publish that, especially on the front page. Again, though, it'll sell magazines. That's all the justification they need. |
