Michael Jackson outfits for BF Heroes

Available this month for free-hee!

Electronic Arts is releasing a pair of outfits for Battlefield Heroes apparently designed to resemble Michael Jackson's costumes for "Smooth Criminal" and "Bad".

The Smooth Suit and Thuggin Outfit are available this month according to the official website and EA has told MTV that both are free.

Battlefield Heroes finally went live last week and we'll have a review up soon. Michael Jackson finally... no, much too soon.

Hm, i hope they don't charge you for it. Otherwise, it comes across as a bit ... making money from the guy's death and the surge in popularity for everything MJ.

tbh even if they don't charge for it, it seems pretty distasteful to me at least. Free advertising innit?

I logged in to see if they still charge for it. They do, but in VP (earned in-game) not BattleFunds (bought with real money)... Still, since the items only last for 7 days, I don't like spending my VP's on a tribute item, no matter if I was a fan or not.

That 'free' annoncement is still very much debatable.

    How wonderfully inappropriate.

    @ AphoticCosmos:

Except that releasing something like that will draw a hell of a lot of curious people to go and ogle the costumes. Also, this is essentially free advertising on every gaming site, blog and forum that mentions it. While they won't make any money off microtransactions, you can be sure as hell their advertising revenue will sky-rocket. So, yeah, I don't think this is purely a 'tribute'.

Surely the exact same can be said of the merest mention of Michael Jackson on the web or in papers?
  • Saladin #12 3 years ago

Of course it can. You'd have to be pretty naive if you thought anything otherwise. Papers and websites don't mention stuff to keep you informed out of some humanistic desire to spread knowledge. It's all about getting copies sold and pages hit.

Numpty-noreal-mates and his not real friends took a wrong turn. Head back to the WoW thread.

"have you seen the front cover of OK! magazine this week ?"

Can't say that I have. It happens to be a magazine that I don't peruse due to not wanting to. But then you'd expect it more from a magazine.

"I have no idea how anyone can justify saying *this* is inappropriate. Have you seen the front cover of OK! magazine this week??! "

Unfortunately I have. I noticed it on the shelf while I was queuing to pay for shopping, and couldn't believe that they had the brass balls to publish that, especially on the front page.

Again, though, it'll sell magazines. That's all the justification they need.

This is shameless. Gaming companies don't do anything for free, there is always something behind it. In this case its all of free advertising. A cheap cashin on the death of a legend. Horrid decision EA.
