Free Batman DLC dated, detailed

Insane Night maps for Thursday.

Eidos has dated and detailed the Insane Night Map Pack for Batman: Arkham Asylum, following an announcement-spoil by the in-game news ticker last week.

Due Thursday, the pack bundles two extra Challenge Maps and is free to download. All three versions - PC (out Friday), PS3 and Xbox 360 - receive the gift.

Inside the Insane Night Map Pack are Totally Insane and Nocturnal Hunter scenarios. The first tests Batman's straight-up fighting ability, while the latter needs a stealthy, unseen approach.

Batman: Arkham Asylum, in case you've been locked up, is brilliant - the best superhero game in ages, if not ever. Our Batman: Arkham Asylum review will tell you why.

I got gold (three bats) on the last couple of challenges last night so this was perfect timing.

Predator maps i've picked up, and now rincing through them.....the combat maps though, i cant seem to rack up the points on the later ones...the moment knifes & stun sticks are chucked in i begin to crumble! i was hoping this dlc would have been some kind of story addition, though its free so id willingly accept it!

"..the moment knifes & stun sticks are chucked in i begin to crumble!"

Press B to stun and use the grapple often. Easy with some practice. Only map i needed more than 3 tries was shock and awe extreme. Easy for points but the time runs out quikly in round 4. The combat challenges is my favourite part of the game. The predator challenges was fun too but not very challenging imo.

Hmm, I thought the challenge mode was the least impressive part of the game. Fun for a quick blast, but that was all. New costumes or better still, new in-game missions or areas would be most appreciated. Maybe for another time, then. :)

    @Zebula77

I agree, I didn't really touch the challenge rooms. After finishing the main game (which was awesome except for those fricking boss fights), I couldn't really be bothered to repeat the same tactics in exactly the same environments just for high scores. Maybe it's just me - I have never really been much of a score whore and I don't really do the multiplayer side of gaming so my friends list is pretty small. Still, for a free download I guess you can't complain, eh? I traded my copy in after completion though, so might have to get it again through Lovefilm or something.

I just have too many games sitting on my shelf waiting to be played at the moment to spend hours on a minor part of the game. It's like gnawing on the bones for the last bit of gristle after you have devoured the meat (if that makes sense).

Are there any achievements linked with this pack? I have a feeling (though I may be wrong) that free DLC isn't allowed to carry achievements.

Woot! Still waiting on the PC version but thanks a lot Eidos.

I love competing with friends for high scores and the combat challenges require you to practice since the combat is easy to learn but pretty hard to master. The story mode was very good too though no doubt.

Nice to see free DLC for a change.

darkmorgado: Oh, I'm not complaining, hehe. Just a little wishful thinking. The game is absolutely brilliant and free DLC is always welcome.

I just want them to announce the sequel now... the game has sold truckloads already and has had awesome reviews, so they would be daft not to.
I want to see Two-Face! And Penguin! And Catwoman! And a proper appearance from the Riddler! And Ra'as Al Ghul!
An appearance from Azrael would be pretty cool too. As long as they don't include the Boy W*nker.

    ...ok, maybe not Ras'as.

Wasn't it implied that this is set in a universe where Robin is dead? Sure I recall some comments from Bane and the Joker offering Harley to Batman since he "could use a new assistant"...

Burnout did it, and now Batman!...

    Kudos to Rocksteady!

They should introduce more DLC when they get round to announcing a sequel - either a mini episode or a few challenge rooms set in a totally different environment, introducing some new bad guys. They wouldn't even need to show them - just tease us with who might be in the sequel and then perhaps have one new supervillain at the end! I'd pay for that...

I loved all the little touches in this game. I'm sure everyone noticed all the damage to Batman's suit as he progresses through the game, the rips, tears, and bullet holes - but I only just noticed last night (after showing a friend the beginning of the game for a couple of hours), that by the end of the game Batman even has a 5 o'clock shadow! He needs a bat-shaver/razor as part of his kit. XD

If anyone's listening, could you please release a patch which allows you to reset the inmates so I can run around and punch them in the face again. Curse this game for not having New Game+ or checkpoints.
