Fracture, Soulcalibur IV demos on PSN

Plus: NBA live demo and Rock Band songs.

Sony has stuffed Fracture and Soulcalibur IV demos on the PlayStation Store this week.

The former, an earth-moving shooter, is not due out until October. The latter has been on sale since late July and there's even been a review. Soulcalibur IV's not terribly different to the rest of the series, either, except for shinier graphics, Star Wars characters, and some fancy super-move mechanics.

The Store has an NBA Live 09 demo on offer as well.

Meanwhile, the recent release of Rock Band on PS3 has brought with it additional tracks to download. These are "All Over Again", "Don't Make Me Wait" and "She Does" by Locksley, which be bought for GBP 0.99 each, or in a pack of three for GBP 2.49.

There's also "Livin' At The Corner of Dude & Catastrophe" by MC Frontalot, "Shhh" by The Darkest of the Hillside Thickets, and "Skullcrusher Mountain" by Jonathan Coulton.

These can snapped up for GBP 0.59 a piece, or as part of the Penny Arcade Expo (PAX) 2008 Collection pack for GBP 1.69.

The key to export Rock Band 1 songs to Rock Band 2 has been added to our Store as well, but, well, that's a bit useless - what with the sequel carrying no European release date yet.

Apart from a spattering of wallpapers, themes, and some forgettable trailers to watch, that's about it.

Fracture is terrible. Downloaded it last night and it looks like Unreal 2 with a populous gun.

There is also a playable demo of The Force Unleashed which hasn't been trumpeted at all. It was on the front page but generated an error when clicked on, then later I found it buried in the A-Z section under S.

I downloaded it yesterday and it's very good. Until you get to the AT-ST boss and become bizarrely powerless against it.

    @nickthegun
    'a populous gun.'

best description I've heard of the game :D

Very dissapointed with Fracture. You really can't get more generic than that.

Oh...the US Store has a Mercenaries 2 demo. After playing that, i agree 100% with the Eurogamer review!

The Force Unleashed demo came out ages ago.

Watching Fracture being played last night, it brought Timeshift most to mind. A game which has been awkwardly sculpted around a singular concept.

Fracture, Soul Calibur IV, Fifa, Burnout Bikes, Life with Playstation, new (useless to us) firmware, and loads of Rock Band stuff. I'd actualy brand this weeks updates as "good".

EDIT: Good quantity, perhaps not quality, except I'm loving the Burnout update.

anyone else find it weird that the UK store got the NBA Live demo before the US?

combat in fracture is complete balls. and yes, populous gun is exactly how i would describe it! ground goes up, ground goes down. make some holes, etc etc. zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

    @ danathjo

Only thing I find weird is that EA/Pandemic have only put the Mercs 2 demo out for US customers. Being in the UK, I'm taking that to mean the game sucks as badly as the 5/10 review suggests.

@Fladge - Force Unleashed Demo came out weeks ago in the UK store.

As for the article, yet another derogatory bundle of words aimed at the PSN update...sigh.

I didn't think much to Fracture at all... it's just another third-person shooter, only with the "gimmick" of being able to raise and lower the ground. Surprisingly this adds very little to the gameplay except for a small puzzle element. The rest of the game was uninspiring IMO, competently made (bar the tearing!) but completely lacking in any excitement whatsoever. Stylistically the game reminded me a lot of Haze, particularly during the intro, but apart from a nice-looking lead character, the visuals are functional rather than amazing. Definitely not something I'm interested in buying but I'm glad I had the chance to play the demo.

    - But isn't this the same patch that lets you use the Guitar Hero III guitar with Rock Band on PS3? If so, this isn't useless at all! Me want!

@mem - EG said Wipeout HD was coming out NEXT Thursday (25th September)... ;)
