Forza 2 leads UK charts

Movie tie-ins can't keep up.

Forza Motorsport 2 has raced straight into first place in the all-formats software chart, becoming the third fastest-selling Xbox 360 title released so far, GamesIndustry.biz is reporting.

It's also the fourth fastest-selling game on any format this year, according to Chart-Track, behind World of Warcraft expansion pack The Burning Crusade, Final Fantasy XII and Resistance: Fall of Man.

Forza 2 has pushed last week's number one, Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End, down into second position - while Tomb Raider: Anniversary also drops a place to number three, selling just 1000 copies less than the hit movie tie-in.

In fourth position it's Spider-Man 3, followed by Wii Play - the first riser in the top ten, moving from number six to number five after sales increased by 14 per cent. Mario Strikers Charged Football drops two spots to number six, while Pro Evolution Soccer is at seven.

Remaining steady in eight is Dr Kawashima's Brain Training as Cooking Mama falls to number nine. Rounding out the top ten is Microsoft's Shadowrun.

Elsewhere in the chart there's just one new entry other than Forza Motorsport 2 - The Sims 2: H&M Stuff, which debuts at 11. There are two re-entries, both Wii titles - The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess (number 24) and Red Steel (number 40). Wario: Master of Disguise enters the chart at number 31, two weeks after hitting the shelves.

Big risers this week include Sonic and the Secret Rings, up 11 places to number 15, and Big Brain Academy, which moves from 37 to 30. Final Fantasy III saw the biggest fall, dropping from 30th to 39th place.

Dunno why I read that as "The Sims 2 - S&M Stuff"
  • kincaide #3 5 years ago

Sheesh - a lot of oldish Wii titles showing some legs. Will Wii Play ever leave the top twenty (or Brain Training for that matter)
  • jonsaan #4 5 years ago

Well, I think you just get deperate after a while being a Wii owner, and will buy any old shit.
  • glo #5 5 years ago

Wii Play will remain in the top twenty for a very long time as everyone buys it for the extra wiimote. It should really be in the accessories chart rather than the software chart.

    @Jonsaan

Amen to that...I got Mario Strikers and then returned it for a full refund two days later when I realised I didn't even like the game. I litterally played one game then thought WTF am I doing!

I keep eyeing SSX Blur even though I know I don't like snowboarding games....

Nintendo best start releasing those promised titles like Mario and Metroid!

Sence has prevailed then! Boo to nasty licensed games, hooray to realistic yet entertaining racing sims!

About time a good game topped the charts... remind publishers that sometimes it pays to make good games and not just movie tie-in tat.

@Penhalion - I too was bitterly disapointed with Mario Strikers. Although I did complete a couple of tournaments. :)

Mercury is good although there is still something disapointing about it. Nothing since Wii Sports has done the console justice for me.

should of played mario strikers for longer - its a great game - really addictive, does take practice to master, what didnt you like about it?

theres a lot to learn like the charge-pass is not mentioned anywhere but its the best way to get the white streak quickly to shoot etc the cups can be tough and online play is great.

i didnt play the original so didnt know what to expect but it was a lot better than I thought it would be.

You just made me chuckle at work.

I liked it initially for the first 10 games or so and then just found it far too repetative to be fun and clumsy to enjoy controlling.

Its a game that could quite easily (and probably was) done on the gamecube. I own a Wii for innovative gaming and to me this game didnt fall into that camp and was a massively missed oppertunity by Nintendo.

Admitedly I mainly played single player but MP games all seemed to go the same way with people using the same moves to score every time.

Damn glad that a really deserving game take the top spot and boo hiss to movie tie ins. See how often the undeserving dominate the chart and show us that the great unwashed mass have no taste or sense!

    No class..

    /Hugs Forza 2

On Mario Striker is it me or is Nintendo in advertising it as "the first online Wii game" shooting itself in the foot a bit?
  • ryohazuki1983 #17 5 years ago

"Admitedly I mainly played single player but MP games all seemed to go the same way with people using the same moves to score every time"

true some people try and use the same moves - like try an sneak past the goalie with dry-bones etc but you gotta adjust your tactics and show them that using 1 trick doesn't work!

maybe its just becuase everybody was new? i dont play that many people that try 1 trick all the time, dunno but i really enjoy playing it.

Forza FTW indeed (even I caved in and bought). While I still have issues with it's sterile/clinical nature and less than amazing graphics, the lure of the car list prooved to strong (many cars in there I want and a few I own).

DiRT is the next essential purchase, makes Forza look like an Xbox 1 title. :)

Mario Strikers is a game for the youngens?!

That's the most inaccurate thing I've ever read probably. The one player and multiplayer are frustrating enough to make a grown man cry, let alone a kid. It's damn addictive tho.
  • ryohazuki1983 #20 5 years ago

the finals are really tough, i can get through the group stages beating teams 10-0 then in the final the teams are a lot more difficult.
  • ZeroAX #21 5 years ago

i bought mario striker's and now i'm trying to trade it with another game. not bad but not good.
  • psychokitten #22 5 years ago

I don't usually like racers that much, but I'm loving Forza 2 at the moment, and the paint mode/editor really adds a nice touch.
  • NthSimulachum #23 5 years ago

Good game in leading charts shocker!

Loving Forza 2 so far, learning how to soup up cars just enough to win without breaking the bank, or making a ridiculous Audi TT that can rival a Ferrari Enzo, with a paint job one can easily spend hours tweaking...and I hope the end cinematic involves you killing M.Rossi with a hammer and then killing his children and wife. From a first person point of view.

My goodness, I am sorry, I seem to have gone temporarily insane.

I really like mario strikers, online is competitive most of the time, head to forum there are 30 pages of people mostly enjoying it!
  • davisorle #25 5 years ago

I would never waste my time for games like Mario Strikers or whatever. I rather spend the rest of my life helping out my Kinship ( Guild ) in Lotro.... Mario Strikers mind intrest me about 15 years ago that I had an NES... ( Where the heck is Crysis and taking so long to come out?????? )

"I really like mario strikers, online is competitive most of the time"

Might try it out if I can ever find a Wii... The shortage is becoming really ridiculous. How hard can it be to manufacture a lot more of those plastic boxes?!
