why region locked content?

My guild will never join this game as we are worldwide and in LOTR world that appears to stop at the Atlantic ocean.

Their loss eh.

Xiphos - Everquest is quite a long way down the list of the world's most-played MMOs these days...

Still, it's pretty much the most copied one (just see WoW).

I can't be the only one completely fed up with LOTR these days, surely.

The only thing that could possibly make me buy another LOTR game is a Wii-only feature where you use the wiimote to repeatedly punch Elijah Wood in the face.

@wowami

Not true anymore. They removed international restrictions. We can now play with our friends across the pond on the North American servers. :)

Official announcement here: http://forums.lotro.com/showthread.php?t...

Had lots of promise but Turbine turned it into a generic fantasy MMO. Not interested in it anymore.

Has anyone actually played on the Beta?

I'd quite like to know what it's like..

That, and whether it has Tom Bombadil in it. That'd be sure to make it a success.

I am playing the beta right now - at first i was very sceptical. It's growing on me really quite fast however. I really like the "Deeds and Accomplishments" system, so that if you've killed 30 goblins over the course of your adventures (there isn't a WoW-esque "kill 30 goblins" quest yet!) then you'll get the "Guardian of Ered Luin" title to put after your name (assuming you're a dwarf and killed them in Ered Luin...). Stuff like that adds a really nice touch. And yes it does have Tom Bombadil!

the thing that really sets it apart for me are the solo story-based instances, where you genuinely feel like you're in the midst of something epic, fighting alongside Gandalf or Dwalin (in the ones i've done so far). Best WoW comparison would be the Caverns of Time Hillsbrad instance, except this is right at the start of the game and you don't need a group
