Force Unleashed in November News

PC PlayStation 2 PSP DS Xbox 360 PlayStation 3 Wii
News by Robert Purchese

15 February, 2007

Whilst meditating on the merits of the Lightside this morning we sensed a new website for Star Wars: The Force Unleashed, which confirmed the game's development for unspecified next-generation consoles, as well as PSP, PS2 and DS. The page tentatively lists November 2007 as a release date.

New information from yesterday's announcement tells us you will be a "secret apprentice" to husky Darth Vader, unveiling revelations about the Star Wars galaxy on your quest to destroy the last of the Jedi.

It will, as previously thought, take place between episode III and IV. However, it's your decisions that will determine the outcome of this story, with multiple endings promising to "rock" the continuity of the series as we know it.

Naturally a big focus of the next-generation versions is on the power of the new consoles, most importantly the potential for outrageous displays of force powers through new technology. You'll throw enemies through walls rather than against them, and grip opponents in mid air before zapping them with lightning and tossing them asunder to explode like bombs.

This devastating dynamic will be handled by a three-pronged attack of Digital Molecular Matter, the Euphoria Engine, and Havok Physics. Pop over to Eurogamer TV to see DMM and Euphoria in action.

The game will be developed internally at LucasArts, which is also ready to swamp us with a massive merchandising and promotional campaign as we get nearer to launch.

So, will we see the Wiimote controlled Lightsabre we've consistently pined for? We'll have to wait and see. Activision, LucasArts' UK distributor, expects an announcement on the title soon.

Head over to the game's website for more information.

I see Darth Vader as more of a rottweiler than a husky.

Excellent, here's to another great Star Wars game !

What's that you say ? All Star Wars games are rubbish ?

What about Lego Star Wars ? And KotOR ? And...er...oh. You're right. Star Wars is just about the worst possible video gaming license in history :(

The chances of this being any good, are a GAZILLION to one !

pity :(

the fact its due for PSP and co means the gameplay will be restricted to last gen capabilities, the cool effects seen in the teaser video will be nothing more than eye candy, from now on if a game is being made that crosses the generation divide (with the exception of nintendo exclusives) its going to have to be something special to catch my eye as the vast majority will do nothing other than hold back development of truely next gen games

That has nothing to do with anything. If anything, the handhelds and the PS2 will have watered down, different games than the PS3 and 360.
