Forbidden Siren being remade for PS3

Japanese demo due this month.

The bloody countdown timer on the Sony Japan site is for a fresh Siren game on PS3.

Japanese magazine Famitsu (translated by Kotaku) unearthed the game's title as Siren New Translation, and said it would be a reworking of Forbidden Siren from 2003.

Apparently those in Japan can expect the game as early as July, with a demo due out on 24th April.

Unfortunately Sony Europe offered no comment on the game's Western whereabouts.

Forbidden Siren was dreamt up by the director of Silent Hill, Keiichiro Toyama, and was wonderfully bonkers if a little tricky to get into. It went a little unnoticed, bizarrely, but both it and its sequel are worth looking into.

Pop over to our Forbidden Siren and Forbidden Siren 2 reviews for a bit more of all that.

Being a fan of Silent Hill, I've always meant to check out the FS games, but never got around to it. Hopefully the PS3 version will be good, and will see an EU release.

There are rumours that this will be a remake of the first game and come come to the PS3 in episodic form…

Awesome - let's hope they restore the Japanese voices for the western release and lose the cockney accents...

I loved the idea of totally mixing up the order of the narrative in the original game, made it kind of feel like a nice cross between a David Lynch film and Silent Hill. But yeah, sadly that awful American dub ruined the game.

Cool...currently playing (and for the first time really enjoying/ appreciating) RE4 on my PS3...so am in the mood for some more survival horror.

    Would prefer RE4 remake/ RE5 though :)

I'd love more re-makes of, good but flawed games on the PSN, provided they updated graphics and fixed the flaws of course. I think it's an excellent idea, especially for games which a lot of people may not have played.

Yeah, building on JMM's comment, let's have an updated downloadable Primal, Mark of Kri and Sly Cooper, please Sony. Get these decent-but-underrated titles to the masses!

I absolutely hated this game. Horror game + snipers who never miss = no thanks.

"sadly that awful American dub ruined the game."

It was a British dub, wasn't it? Hence the comments in this thread about cockney accents.

FS was a good concept but, you pretty much had to be psychic to complete it. A lot of deaths were from things you couldn't possibly have seen coming. Think back to the Tomb raider 2 style of sudden death from nowhere syndrome.

...I'm already shitting myself at the mere thought of it... brrrr...

A game that was about a million times better if you played it with a guide, I subsequently found out.

The second is a lot more enjoyable and playable. i still have a copy.

Agreed, I remember the first being too hard and I didn't have the patience for it. The second was much better, but still pretty tough at times.

I wonder how they'll do the faces this time? The projected on and statically shadowed photos of face parts that worked so well previously might be a tough sell in HD.

'sony pet projects huh... then where's ico and colossus (good framerate version) on ps3? :)'

Updates of Ico and SotC would be fantastic. As both games only need a HD overhaul, how hard could that be? A disc version with both games on it for PS3 with HD visuals would get my money :)

I remember playing and enjoying the demo of the first game on the PS2 shortly before I sold my machine on so I never got the chance to play the full game. Thus I'd be interested in buying the remake provided it isn't a lazy port with shite graphics otherwise I might as well buy the originals and play them on my PS3!

    @ Apologie
i dont know what great new titles are coming to the PS3 this year could you do one of your daily helpful lists for me please?

    oh wait...........

Only played the first. Very atmospheric, genuinely eerie, but the wacky timeline and very unforgiving nature means it's never been finished by me.
Although it's in the pile of "games I must finish before I buy another console". It's just under Final Fantasy XII...
