Football Manager 2009 patch on Friday News

PC News by Robert Purchese

11 November, 2008

Sports Interactive has told Eurogamer to expect a patch for Football Manger 2009 on Friday, alongisde the European launch of the game.

The update will address various compatibility issues people are having with graphics cards and the 3D match engine, as well as tweak long-term injuries and the typing sensitivity in-game.

There are many more fixes besides, and a full list will be plastered over the official Football Manager 2009 website on Friday.

Football Manager 2009 thunders into the new season with a brand new 3D match engine, revamped transfer system, and myriad other nips and tucks.

Unfortunately, what should be a glorious display from the most complete entry in the series was sadly marred by numerous niggles and bugs. Still, Sports Interactive has already begun to iron these out, and will no doubt continue its historically passionate support of game and community until next season arrives.

Head over to our Football Manager 2009 review to find out more.

I'm almost reticent to buy this until about January when the inevitable third patch will have fixed most things and you get the transfer updates as well.

I think SI see gold as just another beta phase. They release the demo which is a public beta trial and get people to report bugs, they then work on fixing those for a day one patch. Meanwhile the buggy version gets pressed to CD and anyone who manages to get a shop to break the release date gets a crappy version as do people who pirate it. Either that or they are incompetent fuckwits who constantly screw customers with a buggy version to cash in on the christmas spending.

The demo put me right off it, first game in charge at the press conference I was asked if I would be making any changes to my starting line up, I replied with no comment as I didnt have a starting line up to make any changes to yet and the next question was "you appear to be very indecisive on this issue, will we see any changes". Then during the game the following happend

I hate the way FM is always verging on being almost perfect, but every year they add something new that never bloody works

Well they have to release a game each year or they won't have jobs. Last year everyone screamed at them for not making enough changes, this year people are screaming because they stretched a little and added more than they could handle bug free.

Saying that, I was alarmed to see the game freeze in my first game of the demo; text bugs or freaky goals are one thing, but freezes mid game could be a game breaker! There must be underlying code changes to the UI as it looks near identical to the last few years which were rock solid. It's the worst bug I've seen in a CM/FM game yet. :( I'm praying I won't see that after the patch or ever again.

Any chance we could get a patch for this article?

The writer has failed to spell ‘alongside’ correctly, the sentence structure is poor and key words are omitted. A very frustrating read.

How ironic given the subject matter!

Back to GCSE English classes for the ‘professional’ journo.

Too many bugs in the demo to enjoy the game. The 3d engine, although nice to have is awful and needs another 2 years of work. @ Bumhug - nice goal! LOL I had an an experience like that. My keeper came out to get the ball but the ball went through him and in the net.

Players pausing with the ball waiting to be challenged is a nightmare. Sort it out SI. I know Sega demand low quality bug fest releases but tell them to piss off
