Fist of the North Star for Europe

Dynasty Warriors spin-off this summer.

Tecmo Koei is bringing Fist of the North Star to Europe this summer.

The game moulds the Japanese manga series into a Dynasty Warriors template, so hero Kenshiro uses his martial arts to batter hordes of angry bad guys, notching up combos as he goes.

There are loads of moves to uncover, hidden characters to find and faithful recreations of the Fist of the North Star world and stories.

A video and some screenshots await on the Fist of the North Star gamepage below.

    Will this even feature a fraction of the Animes OTT violence? I want to kick a man 500 times in the belly, only to have him laugh at me for a second before his intestines blast skywards out of his belly.

    Hope it's as fun as the arcade punching game

    So far what I have managed to see in action has been slightly disappointing and very dynasty warrior looking, fighting loads of grunt then followed by a boss which oddly enough was how the cartoon/manga worked.

    @dirtysteve
    I'm with you and hoping that the moves are that signature stuff Kenshiro did as my memory of fist of the north star mainly relates to staying up late to watch the english version on Channel 4 back in the day when they showed it envoled lots of grunts exploding and one instance where a guy drowned himself because a technque made his spine bend himself backwards into and aquairum... oh and that 3 min death one where a digital style counter showed up on screen to count it down.

    That show was awesome sometimes...

    On that note did anyone ever play the arcade game with the punch pads? not as gory but doing the 100 fist attack was an experince... especialy after a few pints.

    This and Arc Systems' FOTNS 2D atomiswave fighter are the best Hokuto no Ken games.

    *sigh* I really miss my Fighting Mania cab :(

    I feel like my manliness grows by 250% by just thinking about HNK.
    I am wary tough. Through the generations too many mediocre games have burned me already.

    ... I soooo hope it's going to be good, and not too much Dynasty Warriors-like. The repetition in that franchise kills me.
    Instead a nice beat 'em up arcade style... hmmm. This game begs from every pore for some co-op action? Is there any?

    That sounds awful, every demo of that genre has bored me to tears. KOEI are imagination-less automatons.

    They're the ultimate in marmite game styles. Personally I lose hours if I sit down to one.

    I don't like Dynasty Warriors, it may have hundreds of enemies but you'll rarely see even one of them attack. It's no EDF where one ant getting into your flank can mean instant death (at least on the harder difficulties).

    I remember the MegaDrive game being a rather average brawler (still, exploding motorcycles and bad men exploding in sprays of blood is nice) but the Game Boy game being quite popular as it was the only fighty game when the Game Boy first came out.

    @metalangel

    That was my first Mega Drive game, it was called "Last Battle". I never completed it :(.

    Nice vids Matt - I had a few goes on Fighting Mania when they had it at Troc, and did abysmally every time. The PS2 fighting game was good, though I wish they released an XBLA version of it so I'd have someone to play it against. Even Casino didnt get it as an arcade.

    As a big manga and game fan, I hope this will be good enough for me to buy. Such a a game needs good NPC AI, and the DW series previous efforts care nothing for such things.

    I'll probabaly bag it on the cheap, and look forward to Quantum Theory instead, a much more forward thinking game from pre mergerTecmo. Lets hope KT can push more original ideas like QT in the future, as DW is burnt out.
  • metalangel #23 2 years ago

    @Pastici: I've got the actual Japanese version. It's quite hard, the big fat dude who throws the balls at you is tough to beat. There was a funny review of it on SomethingAwful but I can't find it now.
