tbh, I don't think it looks that different from the second one.
  • MaxiSleep #3 3 years ago

Given the resolution these are clearly not in game but rather renders done with game assets

Even so they are not the jump forward I was expecting.
  • JediMasterMalik #4 3 years ago

You would if you looked at it again, the second game I mean.

Also, some of the character models look great, Kratos looks very detailed. The lighting looks nice too.
  • penhalion #5 3 years ago

    THIS...ISN'T....SPARTAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!

    @squarejawhero

Nope doesn't look like a painting at all. That was just Chrsi waht's his face doing the usual stupidly overhyped drool. Reality is that this will most likely turn out to be a prettier version of GOW2 with all the same QTE flaws that the previous two had.

Looks nice, with the exception of those very shiney bricks in the second screen.
  • shotgun44 #7 3 years ago

One of my favourite series of games ever! Truly epic in scale! Need this now!
  • Yossarian #8 3 years ago

    Looks sort of plastic.
  • Gazza_UK #9 3 years ago

you guys werent actually expecting this to look like a painting were you :D

best thing too do is ignore all hype till the game is out, wont ruin it for you then... *Assassins Creed :(*
  • Widge #10 3 years ago

keep the qte's! they made the previous ones fab.
  • Les #11 3 years ago

Looks nice. But it better be more than just an HD upgrade as far as I'm concerned.
  • Widge #12 3 years ago

and pretty version of past gen title? based on comments threads in general, that's all people want. balls to new ip's!
  • ratso #13 3 years ago

qte worked in god of war.

They were only used to deliver finishing moves in battles and made sense e.g. forcing a blade (via button mashing) in a struggling minitor's head.
  • Les #14 3 years ago

"keep the qte's! they made the previous ones fab."

    +1
  • Les #15 3 years ago

"based on comments threads in general, that's all people want."

Only if it's on the console that they like... ;)
  • zisssou #16 3 years ago

cant wait to play it. like the other two games it was fun kicking the crap out of everything!
  • Ryze #17 3 years ago

    @J1GSAW

    looks amazing!

time to throw the 360 away

Whoaaaah there! Wait for a year until it actually gets released first, eh?

I'll have to get a PS3 for this one. This & WipEout HD are big system sellers. If only they were properly advertised on TV, eh?

    /waits...

    /looks at watch...

    /taps foot...
  • Eraysor #18 3 years ago

Not as impressive as I expected.
  • NotSoSlim #19 3 years ago

People seem to forget this game could be a year away..looks great now so imagine when its polished

    lovely
  • Triggerhappytel #20 3 years ago

It looks great, but somehow I don't think this is going to push the PS3 hardware in the same way GoWII pushed the PS2.

Still, even if this is more of the same I will still love it. A few minor changes would be nice though (less QTEs - or at least less mandatory ones, more exploration) and I hope the story is brought to a close with this one. I would also quite like to see Kratos get his comeuppance, as he is quite a horrible fucker, isn't he?
  • Hellform #21 3 years ago

IS IT RUNNING AT 60 FPS?
Shame on the fucking gaming media for not fact checking the framerate of a fast paced action title.
  • Widge #22 3 years ago

The QTE's were fine, if you used them and got it right then you got a bonus, if you decided not to gamble, then you didn't. I found it gave me a satisfaction of finishing off rather than hammering [] until all foes dead.

Moaning about QTE's is the current vogue. You see people voicing against them, you copy paste the opinion as your own.
  • daz_john_smith #23 3 years ago

God of War 2 will be a tough act to follow, even graphically it stills looks great compared to todays games.
  • ChthonicEcho #24 3 years ago

Overdone bloom and blurry post-processing? What is everyone cheering about?
  • sifujames #25 3 years ago

Looks good, it's about the only game on either the 360 or PS3 that's got me thinking "I'll have to go buy that console to play this". Looking forward to seeing some HD gameplay video

And as for QTEs? Hate them. Completely remove you from the flow of the game and mean that rather then appreciate what's going on, you end up staring intently for the button prompts and miss whatever lovely fancy thing your character is actually doing.
  • Gradius #26 3 years ago

Yeah, erm...I really can't say I'm impressed, I don't want to upset anyone but at this early stage the game looks like a mess to me..I'm not impressed at all to be honest...
  • drumbaby #27 3 years ago

Played the first one not so long ago, and this is leaps and bounds ahead of it, visually.
  • drumbaby #28 3 years ago

"I don't think this is going to push the PS3 hardware in the same way GoWII pushed the PS2. "

If they make GOW 4/5 at the same stage in the PS3's life cycle (respective to GOW1 or 2 on PS2) then I'd expect the newer console to be pushed that much harder. It's early days for PS3.
  • captainrentboy #29 3 years ago

This is GOW2.5, right, are you with me guys, RIGHT? *High five*....
No, in all seriousness they're not particularly awe inspiring shots, but I can't be angry I fooking loved thew first two with a passion, the PSP one was bloody fantastic too!! I have no reason to believe that this will be anything other than totally awesome.
  • Les #30 3 years ago

    "more exploration"

Noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!!! Just expertly designed linear levels with awesome set-pieces. Exploration is nice for a MGS type game but a full-on action game is much better without it. Otherwise it might turn into a gameplay travesty like the GTA series...
  • Les #31 3 years ago

"Yeah, erm...I really can't say I'm impressed, I don't want to upset anyone but at this early stage the game looks like a mess to me..I'm not impressed at all to be honest..."

No problem here. Though I am curious what makes it a mess in your eyes.
  • sifujames #32 3 years ago

There's a "hands on" article over on Kotaku... sounds pretty damn awesome

And there's one up on Joystiq now too...

  • JediMasterMalik #33 3 years ago

The whole level we saw was rendered ON ANOTHER CREATURE! (one of the titans)

That's some pretty damn impressive scale the system is working with.
  • Syrette #34 3 years ago

Doesn't look that impressive at all. Looks like an HD upgrade with cleaner textures.
  • Gradius #35 3 years ago

"No problem here. Though I am curious what makes it a mess in your eyes. "

I just don't see anything at all impressive about it, the enemies are about as generic as you can get, the architecture of buildings is simplistic compared to something like Gears of War 2. It looks sparse and bland. As said above, it just looks like some kind of HD remix. There is nothing at all there that makes me think this is pushing the hardware and nothing at all 'new' to get excited about. Neither does it look like a 'painting'...I see nothing as impressive as this in these new shots (apart from the fact the new ones are HD). I'm a hell of a lot more impressed with the Uncharted 2 shots.
  • bad09 #36 3 years ago

I'm back on PS2 so I might actually pick up the first two now and see what all the fuss is about before 3 comes out (it's Sony so it'll be a while anyway!).
  • TONYgr #37 3 years ago

i had higher hopes for it in the graphics department!well its too soon.lets wait and see.also i agree with you GRADIUS!

  • Les #38 3 years ago

"I just don't see anything at all impressive about it"

Mind blowing they're certainly not. But to say they're messy? Rather too clean for my liking, as with all HD graphics. The sterility takes away from the character.

But as long as it plays well and introduces some new gameplay elements instead of just repeating the previous chapters, I'm happy.
  • Zander #39 3 years ago

captainrentboy don't leave me hanging! I was all over that high five!

It does look a little shiny at the mo (sometimes i think devs think shiny = good) but graphics don't count for God of War (ok they did represent the "pinnacle" in Graphics for ps2/psp when thye came out). All 3 previous games have been really enjoyable, so as long as they nail the game play it don't care if it looks like GoW 2.5.
  • Darren #40 3 years ago

Those screenshots look very nice (as did the trailer) but I want to see some actual ingame footage *in motion* before I get too excited. The previous two games were marred somewhat by horrific screen tearing (terrific games though!) so I'm hoping the PS3 can, at least, run these visuals at a smooth 60 fps framerate without any tearing whatsoever.
  • Darren #41 3 years ago

And what...?!? 2560x1440 for the full resolution screenshots... that doesn't inspire much confidence that they're from the actual game as the PS3 cannot even display that resolution or level of anti-aliasing!!! I'm beginning to think those are bullshots maybe...
  • El-Dev #42 3 years ago

Nothing will ever look as good as or better than Gears of War 2...unless it's gears of war 3.

Just preparing everyone for what will be said until Gears 3 comes out.
  • Thunderbolt #43 3 years ago

Having played both GOW 1 & 2 and Chains on the PSP

I will be watching this with interest

I think this game would be awesome with co-op.

I think like a lot a gamers I have a mental checklist where I measure a console by its must have games and the PS3 is getting there (Killzone, Drakes, GOW etc - its almost there)
  • Les #44 3 years ago

"I think this game would be awesome with co-op."

Please no. Co-op sucks IMHO and every euro of developer budget wasted on it detracts from the single player campaign. It might work a bit in slower games where you just have to shoot stuff but please spare the rest of the genres from this useless 'feature'.
  • Andyraino #45 3 years ago

    Really quite underwhelming.
  • Nikanoru #46 3 years ago

I rofl heartily at some of the fanboys I've seen hyping this up like a retard.
