First Age of Conan expansion teased

Image suggests oriental theme.

Funcom has revealed a teaser image for the first expansion pack for its MMO Age of Conan: Hyborian Adventures, which it expects to release in 2009.

The concept art shows three ninja-like warriors wearing green masks with a strongly oriental look. In the background are green banners decorated with dragons, and pagoda-like buildings.

Funcom refused to comment further on the image - but the prominent oriental stylings suggest that the expansion will take players to the land of Khitai, Conan author Robert E. Howard's version of China in the Hyborian Age.

The image will be officially released tomorrow.

ok, well, if its an xpac, thats a serious mistake.

i've been fairly encouraging of AoC, as with all MMO's it needs time to bake. But moving on to an xpec before the main game is in order would send the wrong signals.

If its not an xpac, if its content patch, well and good, but still, too soon

Maybe they should fix the first game first?

Funcom continuing to spin. Shame the game is broken, and out of control.

Does seem to lend credibility to the rumour that most of the original devs had been moved on to other projects like the expansion once the main game was out for a few weeks, hence the serious drop in patch quality.

Ridiculous that they could be pitching an expansion when the main game is still way off being complete.

Although, It seems AoC is bugged and has problems (As it is) like missing content and Gems,

Funcom also have to look forward, Every mmo does, what happens when they atually get the content in fix the bugs, people will get bored of the game before the x-pac is out,
All MMOs do the same and it doesnt surpise me Funcom are either, MMO's at lauch always have there problems.

Hmm, not sure I agree with you 100% on your analysis there, Ethier. Lord of the Rings Online came out at a high state of polish, with only the PVP area the Ettenmoors letting people down. Other than that it was surprisingly free of any major bugs. And they have two groups of people, a bundle dedicated to patches and content update leading to new zones and abilities every couple of months and a bundle of people dedicated to making the new expansion pack.

Funcom had some good ideas and passion but failed to - as anomagnus excellently said - leave it to bake for long enough. I agree with you on the way that MMO's need to dangle the next shiny thing in front of hungry fans, though - myself included.

It's far too early to be sending players off to Khitai when we still haven't seen places like the Steppes, Kush and the Black Coast. Funcom shoulld be hang their heads in shame and fix the game before wittering on about expansion packs.

    Crom's teeth!!!
