First 360 Avatar clothes dished out News

Microsoft has served up the first batch of new clothes for Xbox Live Avatars.

They're free, and consist of a snowboarding coat, snowboarding gloves, snowboarding boots and a snowboarding hat. Yes the only things missing are some snowboarding trousers, but we went with the skinny Spandex-style black strides and were content with the ensemble.

Microsoft has previously promised regular and free clothing updates for Avatars, at least for the first few batches. The New Xbox Experience, which introduced Avatars, only launched mid-November, but we hope there are plenty of festive outfits planned for Christmas.

Because, let's be honest, the selection on there can be limiting. How were we, for example, supposed to match our curly hair and penchant for a costume or two? No fairy wings? And what about stubble?

If my memory serves me correctly although those items of clothing are not available from the individual clothes menus, you can select a top hat and tails outfit from the 'outfits' menu.

So when I log on later ALL of my Live friends will be dressed up like snowboarders, just like when it first launched almost everyone had the fooking black T-shirt/Red skull outfit on.

Also.. again with the hip outfits. The standard selection of outfits was hipster-only, and now we get hip snowboarding outfits? What about those of us who aren't hip or cool? Give us outfits for the geeks, the nordic walkers and the dodgeballers.

Snowboarding?

When is my Avatar(d) going to be able to not look like another Hoxton cunt?

I suspect the answer is probably never, being as all the clothes for it are designed by 'fashion students' who Rare found loitering in a 'trust fund cash only' Islington cybercafe.

I'm an unhealthy man in his mid thirties and I wear clothes from Sainsbury's so I can afford more video games. M$ make more money out of me than they ever will out of some Nathan Barley so give me some avatard clothes I'm not going to get beaten up for wearing in Merthyr. Then I'll show you bloody microtransactions.

How come you can't have a beard AND a moustache though? Or, was I just being thick when trying to insert the hair into my Mii, er sorry Avatars face?

I can kinda see why the first set of clothes is winter themed, but why such a small area? Where's the Santa suit? What about reindeer antlers? Even being able to dress up as a giant Christmass Tree would be nice >_

The selection of clothes and the Avatar customisation options is still extremely weak IMO resulting in many Avatars looking very similar, particularly in the way they're dressed. I can't see why there is no stubble option or, indeed, twice as many features as there are now... the Wii's own Miis are far more varied IMO. Of course Microsoft are probably holding back the best stuff to sell as premium content... I certainly wouldn't put it past them...

Miis are more varied? They don't have any kind of clothes customization (that I could find, only got a Wii last week) except the colour of their top, and half of those clash horribly with the pants.

edit: however I too think that they will charge for clothes eventually, and that stinks.

Hahahaha oh wow. Avatars all have the same retarded looking face, in terms of creating different personalities you can't do a fraction from what you can with Miis, yet you think the former are better because of some lame superficial fashion bullshit?

This is pretty metaphorical. For the consoles they're on, and maybe other things, too.


Avatars are a joke, a lame excuse for a Mii ripoff whose creators just don't get it.
