Fire Emblem to go online?

Producer mentions DS too.

Fire Emblem's producers have indicated that the turn-based strategy series could be heading online in its next Wii instalment, while a DS version is also fairly likely at some stage.

Speaking to Dengeki DS & Wii Style, in an article partly translated by IGN, Nintendo's Hitoshi Yamagami said that for the first Wii title, Goddess of Dawn, released in Japan last month, "we decided to focus on single-player and held back on Wi-Fi".

"However, for the next title, if we have the chance, we'd like to use it," he added.

When asked if Fire Emblem might make the transition to other formats, Yamagami also reportedly said that Nintendo feels "that the SRPG genre is suited for the DS".

Good news, then, for fans of the enduring series, which has enjoyed a couple of excellent turns on the Game Boy Advance and a rather handsome outing on the GameCube in the last few years.

Goddess of Dawn, which continues to use CG cut-scenes for some bits of its storytelling, brings back the Laguz and Beorc from the GameCube title, alters their abilities and introduces new skills, with a plot and cast of characters that builds on its immediate predecessor.

Sadly Nintendo's yet to say when we can expect a Western release.

    Online? I don't need.
But a Fire Emblem for the DS would be great.
I was expecting that game (based on the GBA games) when I bought the DS, and I was very disappointed when it was announced for the Wii (that I don't have and don't need).

The one already out in Japan on the Wii is not all that good apparently. At least not very well Wii implemented. Seems to be designed to be controlled best using a Classic controller - which is hardly ideal.

What are you talking about. All previous Fire Emblems were not "Wii optimized" and they were all outstanding titles.

It's a Wii game, you expect it to play well with the standard Wii controller - it doesn't. You shouldn't have to spend another £15 on a controller to play it comfortably.

    linky

Ignoring the fact the people in the vid are some of the most annoying in the world, the points made are valid.

It actually isn't a Wii game, though. Another lazy port you could say, like Zelda or Super Paper Mario who all started out as GC games and got "adapted" for the Wii.

Some better, some worse, and as I actually own 2 classic controllers (for multiplayer VC)... :)

Seems from the IGN preview the core gameplay is nice enough but they the developers are fairly brazen in admitting it is effectively a GC game slapped on a DVD for the Wii. No widescreen support, no upgraded graphics and no Wii type controls at all. I guess this then boils down to how much they intend to charge for this when (if) released here.

Full price, I bet. After all, it's not worse (technically, we'll see about the story) than the prequel. It's a must buy for me, like all things Fire Emblem.

    @ Dr Damn

    I dissagree.

I think developers should make use of the Classic controller more, were appropriate.

like for example in the case of Metal Slug Anthology, a game crying for Classic Control support, but get it not!

I mean, a Street Fighter compilation for the Wii should ideally be made, and the Classic controller only would do it justice. Why not?

Not all games should be Wiimote oriented.

You're speaking gibberish! If the game is really designed for the Classic Controller then that's shocking.

Fair enough that the game doesn't make use of the Wii gestures, I think that's a necessary decision for some games (just like Mario Kart:DS doesn't use the stylus etc). I hope the game is at least playable with the remote, I assume it's used sideways or something?
