Final WAR Call to Arms event dated News

MMO PC News by Robert Purchese

11 June, 2009

GOA has announced that the final Warhammer Online Call to Arms live event Rise of the Tomb Kings will begin next Wednesday, 17th June.

In it, forces of Order and Destruction will make airships and transport players to the Land of the Dead, have a fight and the winner gain access to new dungeon Tomb Kings - the biggest in WAR, with appropriate mountains of loot.

The event closes on Wednesday, 24th June.

Exclusive titles "Sky Captain" for Order and "Master of the Air" for Destruction will be handed out to key players. Dedicated (read: lonely) players might also get the Ravening Cloak, which is ultra rare maybe has a fetching rat pattern on.

The Call to Arms live expansion has been made up of live events, big patches and the introduction of a new zone and PvP dungeon. Mythic plans more of these in the hope of restoring the population of WAR.

Might well be tempted to resub, just hope it's not something solely for loot grinders.

I've given up on WAR, just not enough other than PvP to keep me interested... A pity, as it was enormous fun while it kept me going.

I don't know. I really wanted WAR to succeed, but it just never lived up to its potential.

For example, I remember Barnett talking about how players wouldn't fight over flags and such things that players don't care about, but rather over war-factories and things of proper value. And what do I see the first time I enter a PvP-zone? Flags. Furthermore, it's a very walled in and linear experience, which was rather disappointing for a PvP-centric MMO that really should've played more on the dynamic nature of player conflict.

Anyway, I'm still glancing at the box every now and then, but I guess grinding through what I've already dismissed -- just to get to whatever new stuff that may've been added -- isn't all that appealing. Also, GOA is still a thorn in my side. Get a proper website for starters -- how hard can that be?

Guess I probably should pick it up again -- if only for a month -- to see if there's apparent improvements or not, further down the road.
