Final Fantasy XIV beta sign-ups open

PC to start with, PS3 details later.

Final Fantasy XIV Online beta sign-ups are open and all European and North American humans can apply.

You must be over 18 years-old to take part and can do so on the FFXIV website.

This beta test is for PC only and applications will be considered for each phase, so there's no need to reapply. "Details regarding recruitment for the PlayStation 3 version will be released at a later date," the website states.

There's no beta-test start date mentioned, by the way.

Square Enix surprised an E3 2009 audience by not only unveiling Final Fantasy XIV but by announcing an ambitious 2010 release date to go with it.

FFXIV, an MMO, will follow-on from FFXI, although Square Enix has made a pioneering move to dump levelling and experience points altogether this time around. That's one of the reasons FFXIV is one of the most interesting MMOs in development.

Also I want to add that Square Enix pulled a face off with Blizzard , a mistake in my oponion - huge one , by saying they will match and surrpass WoW. As much as i love Square Enix and FF games in which I can add that ive grown sick of the beloved WoW at the same time, allow me to call bs on that one. Appparently Square Enix is way too immature when it comes to online gaming that they arent even aware of the basic factor to even touch a WoW like the rest didnt manage. End gaming. From the sounds of it so far the FFXIV offers you things that add no interest in the lvl of WoW when almost everything is achieved. All the elements of this game are proving otherwise so far , as much as I still wish that this turns out even better than anything we've seen so far. Will be a good thing for me.

I might sign up for the beta later and lets hope this turns out good..

When you are offered in FFXIV as trhey said themselves to change class and tradeskills on the fly thats no interest to the ones that want to sitck with an MMO longtime. Its just NOT the recipe to keep an MMO player stuck and spend his time over and over on it. Im talking as one of them that wants end game. Am I lying to you? No, Im just telling you my honest oppinion. from the way they are shaping up this game its going the wrong way so far. Even if we like it or not thats how it sounds to me. Like i said, I hope they pove me wrong. Im a gamer. I dont and wont gain anything if this fails to deliver. The other way around actually.

signed myself up, that was the longest web form ive seen in a while hope im successful
  • Goodfella #6 2 years ago

Signed up too and yeah what a large form to fill that was!
  • davisorle #7 2 years ago

    @Goodfella
Filled longer forms. What was too weird was the fact that for controllers it had the PS3 one and not the 360's. And Im saying that cause even friends that have no curent consoles they have a 360 controller on their PCs since its almost a standard controller for the PCs with all the functions adjusted out of the box with the current drivers. Its a bad start for the PC MMO if they care to check the controllers on it too instead of only keyboard+mouse. Then again they have "Other" and "USB" general one its still weird though. Anyhow, Im sure il be accepted like all the beta tests, I just wish we knew a DATE :p.

Bah, I followed a link on another website and it was to the North American sign up - d'oh! Guess I could create another account and try for the Europe one too.
  • Goodfella #9 2 years ago

    @ davisorle

Yeah I thought that was odd too as I use a 360 controller on the PC sometimes but not my PS3 controller.

Signed up for this. Loved FFXI, and completely disagree about "change class and tradeskills on the fly thats no interest to the ones that want to sitck with an MMO longtime." If anything, I think it's the complete opposite. In this, you become invested in a character, not a class. The ability to 're-roll' a different class but still be the same person is much more preferable to endless alts just to experience other abilities.

    Signed-up!

This is my most wanted mmorpg. After playing XI for a good two years, I'm really looking forward to this more than any other MMO!

At least it didn't say "I know where you live!"
