Final Fantasy XIII on show this summer

At Japanese Square Enix event.

Square Enix plans to show its upcoming Final Fantasy XIII and Kingdom Hearts games this summer.

The role-playing adventures will be shown at an event in August, according to Famitsu (as translated by IGN). The event will be invite-only - those wishing to attend will have to put their names down on the community website.

We've not heard much about Final Fantasy XIII other than rumblings that there would be a demo sometime this year and that Square Enix wants to release it simultaneously worldwide, like Last Remnant.

Last Remnant was announced after Final Fantasy XII, and was recently scheduled for a worldwide Xbox 360 release this summer.

Release dates for the Final Fantasy XIII games are yet to be revealed.

The games on show at the event are as follows:

  • Final Fantasy XIII
  • Final Fantasy Versus XIII
  • Final Fantasy Agito XIII
  • Kingdom Hearts Coded
  • Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days
  • Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep
  • Dissidia Final Fantasy
  • The Third Birthday (Parasite Eve mobile game)
  • Sigma Harmonics
  • Final Fantasy VII Advent Children Complete

So it's going to be shown behind closed doors to a few Uber fans who wouldn't say anything negative about it even if it was responsible for the death of their entire family.........Looks like another believe it when I see it game.

Square have said that it is impossible for FFXIII to come to X360 as it's just too big.
Lucky i have both consoles... I get FF and Star Ocean...
    ...and Last Remnant...and Infinite Undiscovery.

    Yay Me!

I don't care so much for a new FFXIII trailer, last time I checked Japanese insiders said it's delayed to spring 2010. I'll be interested in a possible Kingdom Hearts Wii exclusive, not because I like Kingdom Hearts, but I love to see Wii getting more exlusive gamer games and get rid of the silly misconception that Wii is casual/party only.
Hm, why is FFCC: the Crystal Bearers missing from this event?

@bluetribe: spring 2010??? That would mean spring 2011 in europe... This game has been delayed so many tiimes I wouldn't be surprised if FF14 was released before FF13.

I'd love to see a new Final Fantasy MMO. Stylistically speaking, FFXI is still my favourite MMO, with heavily polished gameplay and brilliant art style (and some great design decisions too). However, it is still a pre-WoW MMO, which basically means that it is very derivative of EverQuest (yes, yes, and UO if you really want to be pedantic) in terms of gameplay, and the core design (grind -> claim wars) is in need of an update. I'm not expecting a design revolution, but if FFXI was the best of the EQ design-philosophy MMOs, I'd just like to see a new Final Fantasy take up that role for WoW design-philosophy MMOs.

MGS4 is enough to make me borrow a friend's PS3 and rent the game, but FFXIII will definitely be the game that makes me buy a PS3 :)

Can't wait for more information! Looking forward to hearing more about KH on PSP, too; that looks pretty impressive from that leaked video and all the scans :D

I really hope this is a return to form after FFXII. I did enjoy it, but compared to all the other games of the series that I've played, it's not brilliant and not even amongst the best RPGS. Very good game, yes, but certainly not in the league of the best FF's.

Did they not say they were also doing a simultaneous worldwide release for this FF, ala MGS4? I'm sure I read that somewhere.

The thing about FFXII was that the story was so uninvolving, as were the characters. It was great if you wanted to pootle around and fight lots of things, but I wanted a greater driving momentum.

Probably unrelated, but FFXII had a poor story and bland music. Aside those two rather important things, it was a great game.
