Square Enix confirms FFXIII date

Mid-December for 60 quid.

Update: The date has been confirmed. The price, with tax, is ¥9240 (£60.54).

Square Enix is expected to confirm a 17th December Japanese release for Final Fantasy XIII today at a special Tokyo Premiere Party that starts at 7pm JST (11am UK).

The announcement was pre-emptively spoiled by an online advertising campaign on YouTube Japan which, when its URL was changed to contain "After", displayed the December date. Oops. Fansite FinalFantasy-XIII.net had the scoop.

Final Fantasy XIII won't appear in Europe until next year, of course, when an Xbox 360 version will be added to the inventory. That's a work-in-progress at the moment, but will eventualy launch simultaneously with the PS3 game when the bunnies arrive in spring.

Head over to our Final Fantasy XIII gamepage to find out much more.

so FFXIII this year for Japan - as well as exclusive? MeThinks PS3 sales will indeed remain quite high this year in Sony's home country.

Just read this and came here to spread the news and had an "oh snap" moment. Spring '10 looking good for us Pal peeps.

Can't wait! Gonna have to. :(
  • ZuluHero #4 2 years ago

I wonder if they'll put English on the disk? Could be a good Christmas import to while away the winter months. Would make an ideal 'christmas' game :)

EDIT: Eh - why the neg rep? People confuse the hell out of me sometimes...

Now we just hope and wait for confirmation of English text and subtitles in the game...
  • MeBrains #6 2 years ago

mr_writer, I suppose it is precisely your mentioning "first" that a lot of persons react negatively to. It is a super-nerdish thing to do, see?
  • menschenfracht #7 2 years ago

didn't actually like their gametrailers interview. shitty english audio only, mr. kitase? oh yeah, we won't compromise unless we need to.
  • ps3owner #8 2 years ago

so, COD4MW2 seems cheap compared to this?!
  • coomber #9 2 years ago

Sixty quid had better not be the price for the UK when it comes out. There is no way I'm paying over 50 quid for a game.
  • Grayvern #10 2 years ago

This means I definately wont be able to play it till next summer because im not importing and it's my final year of uni soon so ill be up to my arse in work in the spring, damn.
  • DanC89 #11 2 years ago

I thought they usually had their games cheaper, not another 10 quid more expensive than the RRP here (which is always knocked off by at least a fiver)? In any case I think it might be priced similar to MW2..
  • Mnia786 #12 2 years ago

Seems actvisions poison is spreading, enix also wanting over 50 quid a game. Well all I can say to that is: FUCK YOU. I aint paying over 50 quid when I got GTA IV from around £35 and they spent around £50Million developing it so dont even pull "high dev costs" out of your arses.
  • Schiraman #13 2 years ago

I'll be absolutely astounded if this comes out in spring 2010 over here. More like autumn or winter, if that.
  • ecureuil #14 2 years ago

There's no chance of this having an English option, so stop hoping.

And this is one of the few games where £60 is actually justifiable, give it's been in development since the second World War and has cost about as much as the second World War to develop. Plus it's a game that will have at least 60 hours worth of gameplay in, so £60 doesn't seem so bad. It won't be that much when it comes out over here anyway, so don't fret.
  • des #15 2 years ago

Total ripoff...£60...lol...gaming industry is really digging its own grave

I expect it to be a decent game, massively overhyped by FF nerds at launch and few weeks later it will be proclaimed by internet as a sucky jrpg.
  • Rens11 #16 2 years ago

im sure it wont be £60 when it comes out here no need to worry till they annouce a price here!
  • Pulsar_t #17 2 years ago

+60 hours of boring side quests, surely?
  • Luckyjim #18 2 years ago

It only works out as £60 because of the awful value of the pound against the yen at the moment. Twelve months ago it'd probably equate to around £45.
  • curtlikesmeat #19 2 years ago

Not fussed if it's £60 although I'm sure you'll be able to get it for less even if that ends up being the RRP.

Same with Modern Warfare 2 for me, I won't bother unless I can get it for £30. The first one is a good game but nothing special apart from the graphics - the fact that it featured in the top 10 of anything in the last 10 years is laughable... oops off topic...

Final Fantasy games are for girly men who like crying and dressing up as women.
  • sneetch #21 2 years ago

Just to reiterate what others have said: the £60 price is due to the CURRENT exchange rate. That is NOT the RRP for the game.

To Robert Purchese: stop baiting the "hard of thinking". :p
  • davisorle #22 2 years ago

    @ZuluHero
Dont bother wondering that. Way too many tards and kiddos checking the comments and get even in the articles to rate ppl from, what THEY SEE AS, opposing team etc so the comment ratings shouldnt bother you just as much easily your post hads nothing offensive, nothing naive, nothing supporting a consile in a misserable way ( fannboism ) nor , lets just plainly say "stupid". So dont even worry about the ratings :) If you get sucked to it itw ill make the comment part of the website worthless and pointless for the casuals ;)

So yeah, pretty clamsy the spoiler with the advert on the vid. Hope the gme is as much fun as it should for a FF title is all i care about when it ends up in my console :p
  • Scimarad #23 2 years ago

I'll be keeping an eye out for the possibility of an 'Asian' English language version, like Demon's Souls. Doubt if it will happen, though.
  • owl #24 2 years ago

i think squeenix always charges more for its 'prestige' titles in japan, dragon quest has always sold for a higher price than regular games.

edit. there is a shopto link right there with it for £35 ha

it would indeed be a mistake i think for them to price at £60 in this economic climate, especially here as we are screwed lol. Will lose a few sales i think if they do.
  • firefly #26 2 years ago

Yes, the main Final Fantasy games have always retailed at a larger price in Japan than most games. It very rarely leads to an increased western price.

Plus as others have said exchange rates are a factor. Currently thinking this one over, I'm hoping for a Japanese language track in the UK/US PS3 version but if there isn't I'm quite tempted by the idea of importing.
  • Rusty_M #27 2 years ago

Well i've been looking forward to this. I played a lot of FFVII and VIII at a friend's house (had no consoles between MegaDrive and GameCube).

Glad that it's not too long after Japan for a western release. Just remind yourselves how bad these things used to be.

However if they're asking for £60 then I can wait. I won't pay that.

As an aside, it's a shame they don't seem to want to release Yakuza 3 here. Oh well
  • actionfitz #28 2 years ago

    "Mid-December for 60 quid."

if this is released at a 'premium price' (wtf)... they can suck my hairy under-regions.
£30-£35 is the most I will pay for a game these days. Even if I sometimes secretly contemplate traveling to Japan and selling my extra internal organs for a chance to play FF13 on launch day :S
CoDMW2 will stay out of my machine until I find a decent priced pre-owned copy -> so that none of my money ever makes its way back to Actifuckers.
  • Drakron #29 2 years ago

People, this is the japanese price.

A quick look at Amazon.jp shows Star Ocean IV price being 8,925 yen, games ARE more expensive in Japan (even eroge goes to those prices).
