Final Fantasy XIII coming to 360 News

Final Fantasy XIII is coming to Xbox 360, Square-Enix has confirmed.
Speaking at Microsoft's E3 2008 press briefing, Square-Enix boss Yoichi Wada confirmed the stunning news, stating: "At long last, the day we've all been waiting for has arrived. It gives me great pleasure to unveil this to you today."
In no way understating the significance of the announcement, Microsoft's Don Mattrick said: "Final Fantasy XIII is an astonishing addition to our growing array of RPG titles.
"Final Fantasy joins a long list of former PlayStation franchises finding a new home on Xbox 360," he beamed. A lengthy trailer was shown, albeit mostly CG.
No release dates were mentioned, with the only information being that the 360 version would be available "at launch". Presumably later in 2009.
However, Square-Enix is currently holding a press conference at the LA Convention Center and the bit of Eurogamer not typing this is sitting in the front row feverishly taking notes, so expect some updates soon.
The news followed preview presentations of two of Square-Enix's other 360 RPGs, namely Star Ocean, due Spring 2009, and Infinite Undiscovery, out later this year. We're also told to look forward to Last Remnant. So do that.
Check back for all the Square-Enix trailers, including FFXIII, later today.

at least MGS4 is staying with Sony...for the time being...
Sony's insistance on not paying for exclusives is crazy. FF XIII on 360 is a killer blow to them. God of War 3, LBP,Uncharted 2 and Resistance 2 have to be 8/10 titles at the very least. Mirror's Edge, Assassin's Creed 2, Unreal 4 (when it comes) and Burnout 6 would be great exclusives for the PS3, but sony doesn't want to pay for them. On a side note, How much is this costing MS? FF XII, Fallout 3 Content, GTA IV Content. Are they deliberately trying to bankruot themselves? |

No they won't. The Squeenix guy actually said they were porting it in order to sell more in the US and Europe. Xbox 360 is not really a going concern in Japan, the only reason they're persevering is so they can court the attentions of Japanese publishers, who are themselves looking to markets abroad. Microsoft need to hijack themselves some Japanese branding if they want their next console to succeed over there. I reckon they missed a trick not buying Sega before Sammy did. |

If marketed right, LittleBigPlanet could be a 5m+ seller, but i dont have much faith in sony's advertising.360 lacks something like LBP at the moment and Sony could easily use that to their advantage, but I doubt they will. Why LBP in a FF XIII therad? FF XIII will sell machines, and so could LBP.

If it's anything like MGS4, you'll be able to change a DVD faster than the PS3 will install the next segment off its blu-ray disc :) |

Very surprised by the announcement myself, and also very beneficial as I only have a 360 and FFXIII was one of my most anticipated for PS3. Good thing I don't have to shell out for another console to play it :)
On the bigger picture though, it's really a win-win scenario for everyone (well maybe apart from Sony) but from from a consumer view, it means more people get a chance to play it, me for one. Naturally the fanboys won't see it that way. Unfortunately we'll hear about this now til the cows come home. |

i'll be getting the ps3 version. It will be on about 4 discs for the 360 plus the 360 is much noisier than the ps3.

In order for sony to have a good E3,I'd reccommend the following:
Solid Release dates for LittleBigPlanet, Resistance 2, Killzone 2, Motorstorm Pacific Rift and Home Full Video download store with all major hollywood studios supporting it. More inFamous news (sleeper hit?) Ratchet and Clank 6 Uncharted 2/Jak Lost Frontier GOD OF WAR 3 Mirror's Edge Timed Exclusitivity (I wish) Metal Gear Solid PSone downloadable title the exclusive rockstar game playTV info and FF XIII only on ps3...wait a minute... |

Why would this be costing MS money? If Squenix actually want to sell more than 14 copies, they need to ship on 360. They don't need bribes to do it.

Dont care Ive got both consoles, but still I think ill get it for ps3, because that way I wont have the hassle of disc swapping. Also I dont want to run the risk of my 360 crapping out on me whilst playing it.
But PLEASE!!!!!! dont make it into another FFXII, please! |

This really doesn't matter. FFXIII will be a major system seller in Japan and it's interesting that it wasn't mentioned that the 360 version would even be out at launch in Japan. Plus, we don't know if the 360 version will match the performance of the PS3 version.

I didn't used to be but my Elite died last week so I'm now A FULL-ON PS3 fanboy! I'm not even going to bother getting it replaced this time. It's PS3 and Wii for me from now on.
@evilfoxhound Sorry for your loss, evil...the dark side awaits you ;-) I've been very lucky since I'm still on my first 360. I still can't get my heart to actually persuade me to buy a Wii, though. |

@monkie_king - You kidding? What kind of game is this again? And what are the sales like for those games on the 360? FF always moves a lot of units regardless, it makes far less sense to have IU be 360 exclusive then to bring FFXIII to the 360. It's all about demographics.

The Final Fantasy series will never be the same without Sakaguchi Noboru Uematsu anyway. but still I cant wait!
But to be honest one of my favourite things about the series is being able to talk about and criticise them with my mates, this way more people play it.
