Final Fantasy VII is eight quid on PSN News

PlayStation 3 PSP News by Robert Purchese

5 June, 2009

Sony is selling the PS3/PSP port of Final Fantasy VII for GBP 7.99 / EUR 9.99 on the PlayStation Store.

The iconic PSone JRPG was confirmed for the West during E3 and is available to download now.

Also of note on the PS Store this week is a demo for Fight Night Round 4 and PSN puzzler Trash Panic, where rubbish falls from the top of the screen and must be rearranged and disposed of before the container fills. Check out our review.

PS3 and PSP videos from E3 are knocking about, and there's the usual swathe of Rock Band and now Rock Band PSP songs to bolster collections with.

Tokobot, for those wondering, struggles to justify the hefty 12 quid asking price. Our Tokobot review tells all.

Trash Panic is certainly worth £4. Puts many £8+ games and DLCs to shame

I finally manged to try the Fight Night Round 4 demo last night on the PS3 (ironically, at the same the Xbox 360 version became available to Silver subscribers!) and it looks very impressive visually. The atmosphere and presentation are also top-notch. Although it's not really my kind of game - I tend to tire of these sort of things rather quickly - I did enjoy the demo match. It makes Round 3 look old and slow IMO. Not really sure I'll be buying it though but boxing fans are surely in for a treat?

The PS3 version also seems to look every bit as good graphically as the 360 version, which I've seen in video form, a further sign that EA are finally mastering the hardware so that both versions are practically indistinguishable.

FFVII... I can barely remember another game that I've been that much into. I remember when I finally got Knights of Round, that was so epic!

And yet, by coincidence, the PS3 version of FNR3 is just about the only EA cross-platform port where the PS3 version looks noticeably better.

Oh, at last!

I've been wanting to replay FFVII (legally) on PSP for ages.
With this and the GT:PSP news I think it's time to give my black beauty a quick dusting! (oo-er and f'nar)

@Zomoniac - That's hardly surprising though given that there were some six months or more between the release of the 360 version of Round 3 and the release of the PS3 version. EG summed up the improvements here:

http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/xbox-3...

I've no doubt that had the Xbox 360 version been released at the same time as the later PS3 version, that it would have looked pretty much the same on and included the same improvements. Well, the proof is there with Round 4 because they look identical to me (although I'm sure there will be some subtle differences here and there because of the different hardware both use). ;)

Rock Band Unplugged tracks already? The game isn't out for a couple of weeks. No matter I guess.

Also, I'd expected FF7 to be £15 for some reason. I wasn't going to get it, but £8 is lower than the usual threshold that it takes to get me to buy something. I'm going to have to consider this carefully. Anyone know if the PAL one runs at full speed? That might be a good enough excuse.

FFVII for €10 sounds like a great deal. I would get it if I had a PS3/PSP and my brother didn't have the original for his PS2.

Kind of like the great Majora's Mask on VC. Only I already own that game twice already.

Don't look play FFVII if you did it first time many years ago, I preferred the rose tinted view.

I really want FFVII on my PSP but don't have the space available on my current card. need to buy a new one methinks.

Also, I tried the Rock Band demo on PSP and it's utter gash.

Make room for it! It's awesome. There is a good reason why FFVII is always praised as the best of the series.

Also, having played Crisis Core last year I'm looking at it with a fresh set of eyes, now knowing the backstory in intimate detail.

I'm off now to find a way to turn myself into a tart and rescue Tifa from the Don...

I've already finished it twice and actually prefer VIII, playing it portable now would be a nice change. :)

I didn't get into Crisis Core. Maybe I should give it another go.

If people still like it then that's great, I am not talking about the graphics, just the characters are as convincing or as in depth as I remembered. Might just be me.

TBH I did think 7.99 was too much but I suppose it was 3 discs, so in this case you can justify the higher price.

Bought my copy and loving every low res minute of it so far. Just like rereading a good book.

Minor issue is the tendecy for the 2D GFX to corrupt when swapping back from a battle. I'm wondering if this was because I had the disc speed set to high, so have set it back to normal to see if the situation improves.

Also, battle screen is slightly offset when in full screen zoom mode but only by a couple of lines.

Generally great so far though. :)
