I've come across "Ser" being used to denote knights in a number of fantasy novels and settings (most notably George RR Martin's "Song of Ice and Fire") - presumably some writers like to use it to make a clear distinction between knights in their setting, and traditional English knights.

I wouldn't automatically assume that it's just a spelling mistake.

Sqenix running out of ideas, or treading sound and safe character design and concepts? Dark "clouds" ahead for JRPG ingenuity?

It is very actually Cloud. He was an hidden character in the original FFT on the PSOne - of which this is a remake.

Really? I never got to play FFT, so I wouldn't know. Is it really, as in canonically, Cloud though, or just an easter egg-reference in an unimportant sidequest character?

Yeah it is meant to be full on Cloud. Can't remember the full details - was a long time ago - he kind of gets teleported in by a wierd device or something.
