Final Fantasy III DS dated

For Europe in May.

Square Enix has stamped a big shiny release date on Final Fantasy III, which will sit on shelves across Europe on 4th May.

This DS remake will let Western audiences experience the third adventure for the very first time outside of Japan; savouring the game that bought Moogles, summons and the dynamic job system to the world-renowned series.

Obviously it will also feature some updates over its 17 year-old Japanese NES counterpart, particularly support of the handheld's interface and control system.

"The arrival of Final Fantasy III on Nintendo DS showcases the power of the hardware and proves that no compromise has to be made in order to create an adventure of this magnitude for a handheld system," said John Yamamoto, president and CEO of Square Enix. "With over 1.4 million copies already shipped in Japan and North America, we are sure that Final Fantasy III will be a big success in Europe too."

We've already had our grubby mitts on the game, so head over to our Final Fantasy III DS review for a read.

Wow, I sort of assumed it must already have been out here by now. It's a cracking little game but releasing if after XII is going to make the transition backwards much more difficult, I'd probably have agreed with the EG 6/10 review had I just played XII before hand.

shame the writing is as bland and unexciting as it was 17 years ago... still fun to play though

Doesn't anyone who wants this have it already?

"Doesn't anyone who wants this have it already?"

Most people still buy from shops, even if it means waiting.

Huh? Is it not out over here yet? Completely forgotten about it here as I've been playing the US version for aaaaages.

Absolutely no reason not to import (unless you're after a localised European language version in which case you're stuffed). Mwahahaha....

whoa i too assumed this should have been out by now, feels like yonks since i got the US version. cheaper on import too.

Yeah, I genuinely thought it was already out in Europe. Odd, considering how fast they're getting Chocobo's Magical Spinoff Thingy released here.

Really Square Enix has no excuse for this to have taken so long. It's not like there is a massive amount of text to translate...
  • GamerAddict #9 5 years ago

There's absolutely no translation to do is there? The US version has been out ages, and ok, there may be a few Z's to replace with S's here n there, but come on!

Plus the fact, wait til May and buy it for £29.99 here, or import NOW for around £20......such a hard choice!!

14th November last year it came out in the US........6 months later in Europe, absolutely outrageous :(

Shite game. Not being able to save in dungeons is absolutely criminal.

    "Final Fantasy III DS dated"

Damn right it's dated - that's the whole gist of the review.
  • CitizenGeek #16 5 years ago

Hurrah! Still, this did take Square Enix a stupid amount of time, but, funnily 5 months after the US is actually 'good' for Square Enix.

I can't think of the last time I noticed Anglicised spelling in a game, except for the odd smaller game of UK origin. More often, I come across the American spelling of a word in a game, and it grates when it's a supposedly European release. Lazy fecks.

There is translation to do. DS carts usually come in 5 languages. As far as I know there aren't any official translations of FF3 yet so I guess it takes some time to do German, French etc.

What happened to Yoichi Wada? ;)
  • magicianlord #22 5 years ago

yamamoto is CEO of SE Ltd., which is the European branch of SE Co., Ltd.

and FFIII on DS is one of the best arrangements ever of a game, sure the story is a little light, but its on a handheld - there's less time to get sucked into a story anyway.
the music and graphics are just beautiful, very nicely done. the gameplay with the job system still rocks hard.
