FIFA still top of UK charts

PGR4 debuts in second.

FIFA 08 has topped the UK charts for a second week running, reflecting its enormous success across Europe.

That is according to Chart Track data on GamesIndustry.biz, which saw Xbox 360 exclusive Project Gotham Racing 4 debut in second, pushing Halo 3 down into third.

Ratatouille cooked up a storm for THQ further down in fourth, piggy-backing the success of the well-received Disney/Pixar film in cinemas.

MySims on Wii and Tiger Woods PGA Tour 08 were at fifth and sixth respectively, while Juiced 2: Hot Import Nights slipped on an oil spillage from third down to seventh.

Resistance: Fall of Man did some ecclesiastic scrambling back into the top ten in eighth, followed by Wii Play and Brain Training in ninth and tenth, respectively.

The only other new entry in the charts was Sierra Entertainment's Crash of the Titans at 19th.

It looks like the new price and SKU for the PlayStation 3 has had a solid effect on sales for Sony, with Heavenly Sword re-entering the top 40 at 14th, and MotorStorm churning up dirt to move from 23rd to 18th.

Chart the rise of fall of fact in this dusty old tome we call GamesIndustry.biz.

"Heavenly Sword re-entering the top 40 at 14th"

thats one hell of an increase

Is it just me that can't help but snigger at Heavenly Sword's adverts, I mean, damn, they could've said anything in the ads, the sexy graphics could have had a mention, the glorious cutscenes, the fighting system itself.... But no, they have the cheek to make out that it's actually some kind of challenge to get through, like it has some phenominal enemy intelligence on show.
''The AI will test you,it will challenge you and that is down to the all powerful Blu-Raaaayyyyssss''
And 5 hours of manic of button bashing later.'Ohh, that's it''

Nice to see PGR 4 doing well; it's the best console racing game to date in my opinion and another classic 360 game to join Oblivion, Halo 3 and BioShock. It's also nice to see Resistance still doing well as I believe it's a far better game than people give it credit for. Presumably it's there because of the increased sales of the reduced price PS3 bundle which includes that as one of its games?

@Headbog - I presume you haven't played FIFA 08 this year on the 360 then, at least not to any depth, because while it might look identical to last year's game, it certainly isn't when it comes down to playing it. It has more teams/leagues, better A.I., a slicker framerate, better animation, added trick stick, improved gameplay, etc., in my opinion it's a much better game. I never really got on with FIFA 07 - it felt like a WIP at times - but I absolutely love this year's game.

I'm actually going to stick my neck out here and say the FIFA08 (on 360 at least) is pretty good this year.

Played a few games last night before reverting back to PES6 to play a mate and PES seemed somewhat...shallow...or something.

PS - Ive been a pro evo stalwart all my life, this is my first FIFA purchase (that I'll keep anyway).

PPS - PGR4 is the biz alright. Between it and FIFA it'll be a long time before one particular fight of mine gets finished!

    @ Putty Man

That fight may have to wait even longer looking at the release calendar for november!
  • Putty-Man #9 4 years ago

Your right there Runtime, I think the only way to sort out this pre Christmas mess is to put at least 2 games away in a cupboard, then break them out next Jan and pretend they are new.

But which games do you put in cold storage?...

Interested in how well the PS3 40gb is doing, finally exceeding the weekly sales of X360?

Would sale spike of PS3 titles be also contributed to by 60gb dwindling stock being grabbed up by a more savvy gamers?

Anyway Sony still have quite a way to go before exceeding X360 market share even if the weekly sales are a lot better than X360 on a consistent basis week in and week out. I m not too sure that will happen, as exclusive MUST HAVE AAA games are not there to help PS3 cause...yet.

I have Folklore and Heavenly Sword, both are good but not that great whereas I have plenty of worthies released recently on X360.

Still a damn good Blu Ray player!

Well depending on reviews there is at least a game a week I want on the 360 from now until December. And that is not including R & C on the PS3!!

    @Putty Man
I agree. I foolishly bought skate. at the weekend, so now Halo3 and Bioshock will sit unloved for a while and Orange Box will no doubt come in and usurp the new leader of the pack. All before I've typed and laminated my xmas list! Grrr! Must put credit.... card... awayyy....

Well in time I'd wager that the PS3 will begin to sell well in Japan, Final Fantasy XIII or White Knight Story will start the ball rolling I reckon. That's one market the Xbox 360 will never sell in so it's perhaps inevitable that PS3 sales will eventually overtake those of the 360, it might not be for a few years but I'm sure it *will* happen.

All formats chart is a bit of a farce these days. Ratatouille is at 4, yet on individual formats chart its highest position is 29th. All format chart should be scrapped so these crappy games dont get high chart positions

Why do people keep buying this game every single year?
It's the SAME FUCKING GAME AS LAST YEAR!!!!

No it isn't... PGR4 now has motorbikes in it.
