This sounds awesome. Again, its the little touches which are going to raise the bar here, the windows and such like. What I'm really impressed with is it seems to have lots of MMO characterstics, but theres not going to be a seperate fee (according to the official forums).

Tom, you can tell us since its outside the main text and the marketing types wont read it...does it really seem as good as the preview makes out? :P

Hot damn those are nice screens (especially the bike), assuming they are game engine that is and not PR stills. Need to see something moving to get the full picture, but looking very good so far (gameplay quality not withstanding that is).

What I really want to know about, is whether or not this game is as good as the previous best point to point racer to date, in my opinion; the 3DO version of Road & Track's Need for Speed?

Damn I still love that game, and I'm sensing a very similar, albeit slightly better looking, gameplay experience in Test Drive Unlimited.

This seems to have everything on paper, but I still think it will need a thorough play before a purchase. The other TD games have (IMO) been pretty poor.

Although this preview reads very favourably, so did the Driver: Parallel Lines preview before the review. One to watch perhaps, but will be a try before I buy for me.

EDIT - @Xerx3s "There's no games to look forward to." Corrected.

Okami? Yakuza? God of War 2? FFXII? Zelda: TP? Flatout 2? Rogue Galaxy?

There's some bloody great-looking games due out soon. Above are some of my most wanted.

Full marks for effort, I'm sure I'll play some of these but:

'Okami? Yakuza? God of War 2? FFXII? Zelda: TP? Flatout 2? Rogue Galaxy? '

Meh, Meh, Meh, Meh, Meh, Meh, Meh - in that order :P

It's good that it's a bit quiet, I save some money!

We have all been to Oahu... sort of. Lost is filmed on Oahu island. Maybe we'll encounter the occasional Polar Bear or get attacked by Cerberus.

I'm very, very excited about this one, but very disappointed that they're admitting holding back content they've already made to release on Marketplace later on. If they charge for it when it's already been created, four months before release, I'll be pissed off.

Gran Turismo 4 was for me a huge disappointment graphically. When Polyphony brought out GT3, Yamouchi said it was only using 30% of the potential power. It took over three years following this to get GT4 out, and unless I'm looking really carefully I can barely tell them apart.

Exactly what I'm thinking/hoping!

I've resisted the urge to buy a 3DO on ebay as I know it won't live up to my memories... tryin to get the diablo to 202mph before a car pulls in front and wipes you out on the first city section :-)

I'm guessin the spectacluar rolls will be gone (stupid car licences) but if it feels anything like I remember nfs 3DO... I will be one very happy bunny!

Very important question not covered/mentioned. What's the frame rate like? This matters in racing games a great deal.

Also - unhappy to hear about the car/marketplace thing. When content is created in bulk and then only some of it included on the disc, that's when we've moved from paying extra for extra content, to being sold incomplete games.

It's a pity it's based on Oahu which has no character at all instead of being on the Big Island. There's some great roads there!

wtf? If I can roll the window down then surely I can open the door and walk over to the building? Nah sod that - typical lazy ass dev bastards, let's make a big icon appear and let the player hit 'A'...

"If I can roll the window down then surely I can open the door and walk over to the building?"

Yeah, 'cos making games is just like real life. Real arms and legs exist in all driving games, they animate if the driver gets out of the car (all the artists in the games industry have just been on the blag up until you spotted them just now) and walks around. So all you really have to do is add "a button", then reach into your big basket of coders and ask one of them to write...

if
{
press spare button
}
then
{
open door, get out of car and walk around. Maybe do a little dance or even play on that arcade machine in the corner of the garage.
}

A little dance would be good but I hope it is realistic? Maybe a team could spend the afternoon motion capturing a broad range of human movement. Why they could even now include a place for dance classes in the game and maybe even appeal to a wider demographic. This is going to be so cool!
