Nice to see MS becoming Sony, timed exclusives.. how innovative and really the 'Zen' of gaming. Konami will make their money from the PS2 version.

there isn't enough of a leap between PS2 - Xbox 360 to warrant it hurting Sony sufficiently TBH.

Not to mention the PS2 and PC version will sport 8 players in a online match while the Xbox 360 will get 1 on 1 like the PS2 did for a whole year.

Sooo... in a way the PS2 and PC version might be better online (never thought i'd ever say that), while the X360 version.... is in HD.

While Sony introduced the "timed exclusive" in to the console realm MS have introduced....

Launch AND Launch Window.
Console Exclusives.
And now Next Gen exclusives.

What next? Region Exclusives. o_O
Timed Region Console Exclusives
Live Arcade Timed Console multi-platform region exclusives.

"I bought the Dreambox converter to play PES5 on my Xbox, but there seemed to be a delay between button pressed and what was happening on screen..."

Unfortunately, the Dreambox does not work well with a PS2 pad. I tried it for 10 minutes and was shocked at how terribly unresponsive it was. But if you have a PS1 pad (where the buttons are digital, not analog) then it works perfectly. And you just have to get used to pressing L2 to change players instead of L1.

I actually just bought a new PS1 pad from a online games store based in California. They were the only place I could find one online.

They can barely keep the frame rate decent on the PS2 on the Wide angle, so having it in true widescreen ain't going to happen. They even left the bloody crowd out of the Wide angle on PES 5 and WE 9. Playing a game at stadiums like Stamford Bridge looks bloody awful.

Masterthief - "I play Pro Evolution Soccer 5 with the S controller, and do just fine. Anyway, the argument is now officially mute, as the Xbox 360 controller is considerably better than the Dual Shock. In my opinion. "

Thing is though, the d-pad on the 360 controller is complete and utter wank. I'd go as far as to say that it is by far the worst d-pad i've ever used and was a complete cock-up by whoever designed it.

I really want to get this on 360 as opposed to PS2, but the fact that i've always used a d-pad for footy games means that just isn't going to happen until Microsoft admit they have a shit d-pad and then completely re-design it.

About the platform of Pro Evolution Soccer 6
2006-08-25

Some web sites have the report (or an expression which is possible to mislead) that Konami's soccer game "Pro Evolution Soccer 6" will be an exclusive title for Xbox 360, but such a fact doesn't exist.

We are developing "Pro Evolution Soccer 6" for multiple platforms to be played by many fans.

Konami to Microsoft: "BALLS!!!

We interviewed Pro Evolution Soccer producer Shingo "Seabass" Takatsuka today and he told us that next-gen version of Pro Evolution Soccer 6 would be exclusive to the Xbox 360 through the end of the year, but not for 12 months. He also confirmed that a PlayStation 3 version of the game was already being worked on, and would most likely be released in spring or summer of next year, although no specific release date had been confirmed as of yet.

IMO, I find it an insult when a company gives a current-gen game a lick of paint and charge extra money for it cuz it's a wannabe next gen.
It's not okay when EA (or anybody else for that matter) do it, but when konami do it for PES, it's okay because we're no "G-WHORES"?

I'm not entirely sure what to buy. I've already bought every PES on the PS2, and only just tried the Xbox version for a while. I just couldn't adapt to the controls, being somewhat mixed up and non-configurable to fit better with the Xbox 360 controller (tried assigning the buttons to be just like the PS2 configuration). The Xbox 360 may work better, as it's probably going to have the same config as the PS2, but I can't help to think the triggers will ruin it. Thank god the PS3 controllers aren't triggers (in that sense), it could've ruined the PES games forever.

Also, I'm not going to buy a PS3 for some while.

So, Xbox 360 vs PS2 version:

Xbox360 has widescreen
Xbox360 may be better online
Xbox360 version will probably have slowdowns (it's the first effort, and most likely a port with polish on it. Not to mention the implimentation of widescreen)
How many will be playing this version online? The Xbox versionof PES5 is pretty uninhabited.

but

PS2 version has the Dual Shock 2
PS2 version will probably have much slowdown (pes5 slowdowns were insignificant and rare)
There will be THOUSANDS playing the PS2 version online.

It's not so much a big deal that MS gets next-gen exclusivity on football games for a couple of months, as it is that what's being reported is that it's for 12 months. This doesn't really help the already quite poor image of PS3.

The momentum is turning more and more against Sony, for some justified reasons but mostly because they've been hugely succesful and now people want to see them fail. Which will eventually happen, I'm sure of it, be it not with 360 and PS3 than with 720 and PS4. While Sony is big in the console market, compared to MS it's a small company. Sony had around 70% of the quite small video games market, while MS has 95% (a defacto monopoly) of the huge PC OS business and also quite a large stake in the server OS market and a monopoly with it's Office software.

MS is playing the game brilliantly, slowly turning the console into a PC (and unfortunately Sony is following this trend) without anyone noticing. The great (and closed) Xbox Live service was a master stroke. It's not only a good service (although just bringing to consoles what was already available for quite a while on PC) but it made sure a great portion of the hardcore gamers loved the Xbox. As all gaming journalists are hardcore gamers, they eat out of MS's hands. And those idiots keep focussing on the video games market and that it will be good for games if there's more competition, while they fail to see the bigger picture with MS getting a bigger and bigger share in the OS market in general.

MS is in a position to kill PS3 right away, they have more than enough money to make every third party game a 360 exclusive. But that would be quite expensive and hurt MS's overall stock price. Instead they are smart enough to chose for a war of atrition. Slower but with a relatively small amount of money, they will make sure PS3 will do worse than PS2 and PS4 will do worse than PS3, at which moment Sony, like Sega, will be forced to leave the hardware market. And chances are Nintendo will suffer a similar fate although they may be able to last a litte longer with their hugely profitable handheld business.

So in 5 to 10 years, we'll all play games on an machine with an MS OS, be it a PC, a pocket computer or a mobile phone. Those machines will be way more expensive than the current consoles as MS will not remain in the hardware business (and so the businesses that actualy make the pc's will have to earn a profit on the hardware itself). Too high risk, too small margins. So we'll pay more for the machines and probably the same amount or more for the games as there will be not alternative.

While xbox fanboys apparently applaud this scenario (why else support MS?), most gamers will be hurt.

I can tell the future.

Pes 6 will have
1) New animations on players you hardly use.
2) No extra teams, just change some teams players and flags,
3) Will get reviews of 9 or 10 out of 10, even though the game will have the same bugs as before.
4) Players will still jump over the ball on the wing.
5) You still cannot rotate the camera 360 degrees for freekicks, goalkicks, corners, throwins etc.
6) Rebounds, deflections will 9 times out of ten go directly towards the cpu players feet.
7) A heading system where you have no control when you jump, the power of the header and most of the time no control on the direction the ball will go
8) Players will head, clear the ball and even slide tackle without you even pressing a button.
9) Poor commentary.
10) 9 out of ten interceptions are you player making a perfect pass to the cpu player, even though the cpu player is not even near your receiving player or near the path of the ball.
11) Human controlled players who stand still if there is a deflection or rebound (even if the ball is next to them), while the cpu player 10 meters away gets to the ball first
12) Random power for shooting, i have no problems if the height changes, but why would my player blast the ball if i only tapped the power button.
13) Henry will still have low dribble speed
14) Bugs from PES4 and PES5

Is that such a bad thing? (I'm not talking about MS having a monopoly).
I mean, the end of console fanboyism. There will be a hardware standard, like the dvd, and it's all about the games.

But as you said, new tech always comes, and that may mean upgrading graphics cards. Thus becoming a g-card fanoyism, like the PC world.

I agree, that in itself is not a bad thing, if there would be a real standard. But it would probably soon devolve to what we have right now with PCs so that for every game we'll have to check the specs, download several patches and pray that the sofware will run.

i'm looking forward to PES6, despite initially hating PES5 it's ended up being one of my favourites from the series (and without a doubt the most realistic, it was almost as if the referees at the world cup were taught using PES5). As usual i'll start on 10min 5 star and finish a year later playing 5min 6 star matches, the way you have to adapt your style of play each year is what keeps the franchise so fresh.

All the criticisms DryHeat has listed are there, but tbh it's a difficult balancing line between making a game realistic, fun and challenging. Things like AI cheating can get annoying, but at the same time the AI making a particular game a challenge to get a 1-0 victory is better than winning every game 6-0 because you've figured out the AI.
