Well this triggers a philosophical debate. The graphics don't look that good. So is the next gen version worth getting, taking into account that the ONLY improvement over current gen will be graphical, and insubstantial at that?

@Mapster: Right - all of us like to pretend we're not g-hos, but in truth, that is the precise reason we keep splashing on the X360 and the latest graphics cards. For the saner amongst us (all three of them), the current gen versions are adequate and the case for 360 version falters (and for that matter, for the inevitable 07 PS3 one). ;-)

why does "next gen" pro Evo have the same problems as current gen. :(

cursor spazzing on 50 - 50's.

Goalies with the intelligence of goal posts.

Hell I have a list of a whole lot of issues that I thought could be remedied with extra processing power.

There's still time though but ATM it sounds disapointing Pro Evo next gen.

I will bet my life, the life of everyone I know or care for, and the souls of my yet-to-be-born children that the PS3 does not resolve these "issues".

I dunno, this is just a clean port of WE10, clearly. They'll get the full dev team behind the next version, and possibly overhaul the game, and it's likely to create as many new problems as it fixes.

Playability wise PES 4 and PES 5 were much better on the PS2 than the Xbox; the Pro Pro Evo players even went to the trouble of buying a Dual-shock converter for their Xbox. I just hope Konami get PES 6 Live sorted out; both 4 and 5 were marred by poor on-line play. Having said that Fifa WC on the 360 was also shit on-line; also why do EA need to change the Fifa engine? I thought fifa WC was great.

So for now there's no word on Live support (though it's inevitable), or of how the game otherwise distinguishes itself from the, er, current-gen PlayStation 2 and PC versions. Although we did hear today that Konami aims to allow up to eight players to compete online on those two systems through four linked machines

I've played Winning Eleven 6 on my Cube which was graphically superior to the PS2 version and both PES 4 and 5 looked better on the Xbox than the PS2 build. But the games were designed to be played with the Dual-Shock controller; hence making the Pro Evolution ports inferior game-play wise on other systems. You're obviously not a PES fan or you wouldn't have waited until the game came out on the Xbox to play it.

No, it's completely true. I own a Dreambox converter that lets me use a PS1 pad to play PES 5 on my Xbox.

Having the special moves handled by the annoyingly placed BLACK button just doesn't work if you want to be good at the game. Just try doing a Super Cancel volley on the Controller S by holding R and BLACK and somehow getting your thumb up to X in time, and then watch the one I scored with a PS1 pad and weep:

http://files.filefront.com/WE9___Gascoig...

Pro Evo plays far better on a control pad with four shoulder buttons. There's no debate about this. So PES 6 should be fine on the 360.

Oh then you must be a real pro then... Horseshit!

Works fine on the s-controller, I bet super cancel volleys could still be done with the right timing and if you find it too difficult use it for what it was designed for... retaining possesion on stray passes and the like(take a touch then shoot or pass for a proper volley instead of a twitchy first touch shot). The only thing I will give the PS pads over the s-controller concerning PES is not the shoulder buttons(Id take two triggers over 4 buttons anyway because triggers offer a more precise degree of control... even if the buttons were pressure sensitive they still wouldnt match them) its the D-pad which is only just about good enough on S-controller( I use the D-pad anyway but still... with the hard plastic and straight edges on it you can get blisters untill you get used to it), personally I think this is a game where D-pad controll suits it best but like I say all in all it works fine on the s-controller.

What an angry and confused individual you are, Calgon. No, I'm not a pro cause I don't get paid for playing PES. But feel free to watch some of my goal compilations and you can judge for yourself how good or bad I am at the game. All the goals were scored with my PS1 Dual Shock:

http://hosted.filefront.com/Feanor5503

PES was designed to be played with the the Dual Shock, and unsurprisingly it needs four shoulder buttons to be played properly. For example, the controlled shot they introduced for PES 5 requires to you press BLACK a milisecond after you press shoot on the Controller S. This is much easier to do with a Dual Shock where you have to press R2. And just try using BLACK to move your player backwards for a volley, then move your thumb up to shoot in time. But it's easy using R2 as you can see in this video:

http://files.filefront.com/WE9___Adriano...

I'm most amused by your claim that Super Cancel is just as good using R + BLACK, as it is using R1+ R2 with your thumb free to press a face button to shoot or pass at the same time.

And the triggers on the Controller S don't allow for more precise control in PES because the buttons in the game don't respond to how hard you press them. It's not a driving game, so you can slightly hold R or jam it down till your finger hurts and the response from your player will be exactly the same.

I bought the Dreambox converter to play PES5 on my Xbox, but there seemed to be a delay between button pressed and what was happening on screen...

So I've been using the 'S' controller since release and it works great (I had used it for PES4 too), not quite as easy to use super cancel as the Dual Shock but it's definitely possible to score golas like Feanor has been posting using it.

I'm not going to say I prefer it to the Dual Shock but I've gotten used to it now.

Too bad the d-pad will always suck no matter how long i play with it, so it's analog for me anyway.

The incredibly common pressing fouls, for example, are almost non-existent now - producer Seabass and his team having decided, he told us before the show, that the decision to ratchet them up had been ill-conceived.

This is the main thing I wanted them to sort out from PES5 and they have. Hopefully the live play will be up to scratch as well.

Will be getting this and FIFA07 as I am one of those freaks of nature who likes both games ;-)

Here's what I want them to sort out with this new Pro Evo-scrap the game and send it to the knackers yard. Surely the Evo title is ironic? I cannot think of a game that has evolved so little. For the love of god how do Konami keep getting away with rehashing a PS1 game with same bugs, same outdated controls, same graphics, same inabilty to do all the moves real life players do, same rubbish AI, same getting things like the offside rule wrong, same wonky strategies that arn't anything like real footy every sodding year. Sure by PS1 standards you couldn't have expected more and it was great back then but you look at the US sports sims they have every move, MODERN analogue controls-none of this only been able to move in 8 directions crap-its 360 degrees, brilliant computer AI, every rule in their sports, stunning graphics with MASSIVE sprites that you can see every bead of sweat, they get closer to the real thing with every year, and gameplay that has actually evolved. Don't give me any crap that Pro Evo wouldn't be better for any of that.
To me its like John Maddens US footy on the Megadrive was pretty good in its day but you wouldn't play it over the recent versions. I don't credit the yanks with much intelligence but if John Maddens hadn't have evolved over the years I doubt it would be one of there best sellers every year, the yanks demanded these improvements. Us europeans on the over hand, nope just give us the same guff, hard to see how they could make it much better guv'nor! Pro Evo is now at least 2 generations behind the US stuff. Fifa's crapness is no excuse, Konami are mugging us just as bad.
