Certainly the gameplay videos on Eurogamer.tv look cool - let's see if EA can pull something decent out of the bag for a change!

Is there something wrong with a drawn/painterly look to the game? I quite like the style - I don't see why it has to be photoreal.

The screens aren't really doing the game justice, to be fair.

Rather like Illusion's flawed-but-interesting Mafia did back in 2002

Mafia wasn't flawed. It was a masterpiece. :)

I'm slightly nonplussed by the use of "salubrious" to describe a car.

Non of wich are made by EA but by the studios they bought out. So if it's not by one of those studios and it's not a sports title, people get worried. Becuase when ever an inhouse EA team steps outside the carefully constructed rules and boundries of sport things tend to get a bitt crap.

Absolutely, Kong looked lovely for just that reason (debatable game play though).

...and I thought Katamari was Namco not EA :-O that sounds right, if I remember the way you load your savegames in it.

This game sounds pretty poor to me, and there's nothing in the preview that makes it sound exciting or original.

Not expecting much from the full review...

+1

It was Godfather in all but name anyway. Sounds like most of it has been ripped off here.

It sounds wonderful. I hope they'll upgrade the story and the number of missions.

Extortions sound boring to me. :|

Mafia (on the PC) was almost fine; it had lots of atmosphere and character, believable vehicle behaviour (or so it felt), a suitable predictable story which advanced with pace, rather weak combat and ONE mission which could ruin it all (that tough-as-%&*@ race).

As a matter of fact I always felt that a game combining Mafia's driving simulation with Max Payne's combat system and Rockstar's story/mission design would rule.

TBH I had just a passing interest for Godfather, a 'wait-n-see' stance, which did not change after reading this article. Just a question though: I've heard that an x360 version will come later, but what about a PC version?

Don't get me wrong, I loved it, but some of the missions were just too long and too hard.

The only problem i had with mafia was the car race mission which was totally pointless and completely unbelievable! Apart from that it was fantastic, especially the bank raid, which was loads better than the one in GTA:VC.

That infamous race mission got a solution through a patch (you could even adjust the difficulty right before the start). For the rest was Mafia a bit too short but still very atmospheric and enjoyable. Surely one of the best crime games ever, period.

It appears The Godfather is a lot more arcade and probably as short, then I'll definitely pass.

I thought this was going to be a crappy GTA clone...but now I'm interested in it. Since it's a well-made GTA clone.

But how fun is the driving, since a lot of a GTA game, most of a GTA style game is spent driving from A to B, the most important thing the game has to get right is to make that drive as fun as a fuck. Good on foot controls won't compensate for un-fun driving, neither will the ability to tweak your characters eyebrows. If dring through the enviroment can't be fun it's gonna be hated.

From what I've heard, there is a PC version coming out at the same time as the current gen versions, and the PSP and X360 versions will be coming out but a few months down the line

PC and PS2 versions arrived after the Xbox - I'll take time to check out all three and report back in the review.
