Is it 2 disks?
That's what the IGN remours led me to believe.

This doesn't sound too promising then, to be honest. I am certainly not going to buy it because of cut-scenes directed by the Wachowski brothers alone.

And I love the alt text to pic No. 1. :-)

When watching the cut scenes, did you notice that one of the "vactors" had been mercilessly "borrowed" from the Final Fantasy film?!

See if you can spot which one.

These problems worry me ...

1.)Graphically though the game veers between the extremely impressive and the laughably bad

2.)Other areas were a cause for concern; notably the slightly eccentric camera and an absence of credible AI

3.)Enter The Matrix does offer driving and flying mission to add variety, but the on rails driving/shooting section that we saw lacked polish, with extremely low-poly cars exploding in a very bizarre and unconvincing fashion. Is this a sign of Shiny being rushed into finishing the project on schedule? Quite possibly, as stood next to, say, the James Bond driving/shooting missions in Agent Under Fire, it looks very poor indeed

4.)On the subject of AI, the game seems to have deliberately engineered a situation where you enter a room, clear it of baddies, move on, find more drones, etc, with hardly any call to utilise the rather basic stealth manoeuvres at your disposal. Even the health/focus system requires virtually no skill; with your health bar automatically rising to its maximum should you manage to avoid taking a hit for a few seconds, while your focus does the same

This is one game that I will not be touching with a very large barge-pole.

It's a bit of a red pill/blue pill kinda game then...

I think I'm going to wait for the review from EG Towers and Co. on this one. 6 disks. Blimey.

krudster raised enough bad points to make me wary about it, but at the same time said enough good stuff to make me kinda excited. i'm looking forwards to getting to check out the full review now.

and well said UncleLou, the first image caption was great :)

Hmm I'm too much of a fan of The Matrix not to get it even if it is flawed but which version to buy? No Xbox so that's out, so it's PC, PS2 or GC...

PC version has to be the one to get. Nothing beats playing at max. resolution at 60fps (in 32bit).

"For those who need to know these things, the plot of Enter The Matrix isn't actually a retelling of any Matrix movie past or present, but is set immediately after one of the nine Animatrix animated shorts (entitled The Last Flight Of The Osiris, and produced by Square, fact fiends)"

That explains the re-use of some of the "Final Fantasy" Vactors then...

Cheap gits!

Oh and just in case no one's heard of the Animatrix shorts... linkage

You can download three of them, with one more to come at the start of May. The rest will be available on the Animatrix DVD out in June and Final Flight Of The Osiris is also attached to Dreamcatcher when it comes out on Friday in the cinemas.

*edit* Kristan, did the Enter The Matrix game have the whole of Final Flight... included or just an excerpt?

Couldn't tell you, I'm afraid. I don't recall any excerpts, but it was a whistle stop tour of the game.

"And you only have to pay £1000 to do it..."

Yep but if you want the best then you have to pay for it.I doubt that you would have to spend a grand though.

Sounds like a nice idea, but I'm still as sceptical as ever that this will just be a mass-market orientated movie tie-in with all the usual flaws of such games.

I'll be waiting for the EG review as well.

And 6 disks (presumably ordinary CD-ROMs?) is just silly. Don't they realise that anyone with an adeqately specced-up PC to run this kind of game in the first place is going to have a DVD-ROM drive by now?

Why publishers haven't gone down this road before now beggars belief

They have! For Demolition Man, I specifically remember reading about it C&VG, there was a shot of Sly in front of a green screen.

How come I can remember crap like that and nothing for my exams?

You'd have to have some excellent suspension to drive with wheels like that! It's a bit of a clue that The Matrix isn't the real world if cars try to get around on those babies...

Square wheels...yum.
Luckily they're perfectly round in resolutions @ 1024x768 and higher.
However, though the graphics may be amazing at times they do not make up for the AI's complete lack of steering capabilities (when playing as Ghost).

Apart from small glitches such as these, the game is your average 3D action game spiced with a few innovative ideas (such as all those nifty moves in HtH combat).

In closing, it might not the 'One' some of you may have been waiting for but a damn good game nonetheless.

Stay tuned for the Matrix MMORPG in a year or two...

Ive got this on the PS2 and its quality I would recomend everyone to get it. The fighting is awsome and makes you feel like a genius and the sounds are identical to the movies.
