FFIX dated for Japanese PSN

US release "coming soon".

Square Enix has revealed that the PlayStation Network re-release of Final Fantasy IX will hit Japanese consoles on 20th May.

The Japanese release date was revealed via a tweet by Square Enix producer Shinji Hashimoto (helpfully translated by Andriasang). The tweet also included a brief video showing the game running on a PSP.

Outside of Japan, the US Playstation blog has mentioned that the game will be "coming soon" to the US PSN.

A European release date and price points for all regions have not been revealed. Square Enix has not responded to a request for comment.

It was only a few weeks ago that we first heard Square Enix was considering a downloadable re-release for the popular PlayStation RPG.

Finally! Personally my favourite FF of the PS era! This coupled with VII, VIII, Oddworld, LBP and a new GoW has forced my hand in pulling out my battered old PSP...

Whilst not my favourite FF game, it means now I can now complete my collection :) It also takes me back to a time 10 years ago where life was less complicated. I'm lucky if I get an hour a night on my consoles these days :(

got ff 6,7,8,9,10,10-2 on disc's. All i want to hear about is FF7 remake ... and none of that new FF12/13 shit

    @MerricK

We've been hearing about a remake for years.

"Yes we are going to make it."
    "Actually, no we're not."
    "Actually, yes we are."

    Rinse and repeat.

Looking forward to this. Been a FF fanatic myself but never finished VII on PSP because of the screen bug when going into a battle. Going through VIII at the moment but I really can't be bothered.
IX was the FF I turned stopped playing when it came out because I didn't like but I'm hoping I will enjoy it more this tie around.

Anyone have any idea how big the FFIX download will be on psn?
I've only got a 2gb stick on my pss and FFVIII only just fit.

Why is the PS3 emlation of PS1 games so sketchy. This works but it is really slow reading off the discs, which are in perfect condition BTW. Plus my copy of FF8 doesn't work.

Great game though, have to work out whether or not to fork out for this or just drag out my PS2 again.

Love this game, absolutely fantastic fun. Easily one of the best. :o)
Will be great to have the option to play it on PSP.

Well, about bloody time! This is the one I've been waiting for; my favourite of the Final Fantasy series on PS1. Recently just finished FF8 and I couldn't believe how awful the combat system was.
Wonder when it's out in Europe? Probably later, much later, it's unbelievable SCEE still delay the "release" of games they've released once already! It really does show what a load of old crap their excuses are.

Superb, easily the best FF game so this is great news.
