FFI and II released on iPhone

Square Enix's other games discounted.

Square Enix has released versions of its classic late-eighties RPGs Final Fantasy and Final Fantasy II for the iPhone and iPod Touch. They cost £5.49 / €6.99 apiece.

Their controls have been optimised for touch screen and there are some extra dungeons, not included in the original 1987 and 1988 versions, for you to crawl through after you've finished the story.

To celebrate the release, Square Enix is also discounting five other games for a week - you can pick them up at the reduced prices until 3rd March. They've all had a Euro or two knocked off:

  • Crystal Defenders is now €4.99 / £3.49
  • Vanguard Storm is now €2.99 / £2.39
  • Sliding Heroes is now €0.79 / £0.59
  • Hills and Rivers Remain (no, I don't know either) is now €3.99 / £2.99
  • Song Summoner: The Unsung Heroes - Encore is now €5.99 / £4.99

Fill your boots.

I got ff 1 the other day. There must be a glitch preventing you from changing the default party of warrior, thief, white mage, black mage. Spent ages trying to change them. Can edit the names though, that works. iPhone stuff always gets rushed out and fixed later for some reason so I expect updates as soon as possible. Feels sluggish walking through towns. Anyway ff 1 and 2 are shit -lol- the series didn't get good till 4 in terms of the things that RPGs depend on like characters and story. Didn't get extensive backstory on characters and locations till 7. love you all x x x had beer and wine this morning sorry

Either you have a fish length memory or something else but 4,5 and 6 were defferently story driven behind the characters backstories, and 6 was huge in world terms so I don't know where you go the 'till 7'' part

Come on EG, review em. I've never played FF before; which one do I get? Or neither?

At £7 for a 23 year old game when i've just traded L4D for a tenner they can jump. £1.99 would have been a maybe.

    Laughable price.

The "big" and "traditional" game companies really haven't a clue where the App store is concerned.

"Their controls have been optimised for touch screen"

Taken from first review on the App Store of FFI:

"Fantastic game that was given a good upgrade in terms of graphics. However the D-Pad you use to walk around in the game is mediocre on its own and horrendous when compared to other iphone games like Zenonia. It works ok, but is very unresponsive at times, doesn’t allow for “smooth transition” of your finger when sliding from one arrow to the next and sometimes you have to tap “north” 4 times to get it to work."

The same games are £15 a pop on the PSP. Hardly a rip off considering the games were significantly update for the modern platforms.

Hmmm, methinks they be having a Giraffe at those prices.

i buy it if it gets released on eu psn
  • dfooster #15 2 years ago

yeah it is steep for an iphone game. makes you wanna just go and download black rain in protest doesnt it?

I have Final Fantasy Origins and that is enough for me i wont pay that much to re buy them. i can see the persons point about 7 the difference in quality from 6 to 7 is huge. 7 was the first game i played then i worked my way back as most brits did since 7 was the first one released here. but the older final fantasy games are good.

I'm not entirely understanding your sentence, but I meant 7 was the first one to really tell you a lot about its characters. They would speak at length about their feelings and their past. Sometimes just idle conversation that has nothing to do with the main story. Weigh up the total amount of text against any of those SNES FF games, it is much more fleshed out. Sorry, just fact.

I thought the sale prices on the other games was more laughable than FF and FFII's price point.
