FFCC: My Life as a Darklord dated

Tower defence from this Friday.

Square Enix has announced that Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: My Life as a Darklord will be released for WiiWare on 17th July, i.e. this Friday.

My Life as a Darklord puts you in the shoes of a newly appointed Darklord, whose job it is to strategically position monsters and traps to fight off adventurers. It's tower defence, then, and positioned as a counterpoint to My Life as a King.

That, you may remember, was a rather lovely WiiWare launch title combining role-playing and city-building.

My Life as a King was really good so I'll definitely be giving this a go.

Odd, I knew this a couple of weeks ago, take it no-one from Eurogamer signed up for newsletters from SquareEnix Europe's website?

I enjoy the Crystal Chronicle games, the universe is great.. But I'm not so into tower defence, I would have prefered something more like My Life as a King. Also.. is there any price confirmed for this yet? People complain about XBLA games, but WiiWare titles tend to be just totally unreasonable.

If you're thinking along the lines of tower defence games, where you place various buildings/creatures/etc alongside a path to attack passing enemies, you've got the wrong end of the stick. You are literally in charge of a tower and have to defend it from various adventurers, adding more floors over time, sometimes putting in traps, other times monsters; the aim being to stop the adventurers reaching the top and stealing your treasure.

It's 1000 points for core download, and something approaching 1500 points for all the 'extra' DLC - some of which is fluff (e.g., 'cat costume') but much of which is in fact essential (e.g., 'extra' enemies, items and indeed floor 'themes'). Unfortunately I really fancy this game so I'm just going to let Squeenix rip me off on this occasion. Wish they weren't such stingy bastards, though.

I ended up buying everything, for My Life As A King, can see myself doing the same for this one as long as it's deep enough.
