Feder: No multiformat GTA next year

Just BioShock 2, Payne and friends. Coo.

Take Two CEO Ben Feder has laid to rest any lingering suggestion that a new 'proper' Grand Theft Auto game will sneak out in 2010.

"Our goals for fiscal 2010 include operating the company on a profitable basis without the release of a new Grand Theft Auto multiplatform release," he noted as he confirmed the delay of BioShock 2 to investors and hyped up next year's line-up of Mafia II, Red Dead Redemption and Max Payne 3.

Still, The Ballad of Gay Tony, the second downloadable episode for Grand Theft Auto IV on Xbox 360, is due out this autumn.

Meanwhile, earlier this month one analyst predicted in a GamesIndustry.biz interview that more downloadable episodes would follow, with GTAV joining the action in fiscal 2011.

"I would expect that there would be two more pieces of downloadable content for GTA IV, that's what has been indicated to me, although formats are unsure. It's been indicated to me to me that would be the case," said Todd Mitchell, of Kaufman Bros. Equity Research.

I'd rather have all of those games than another GTA so soon.

I liked 4 but it needs more depth, it never hooked me like Fallout or other stuff did.

Thanks to the shameful conversion from console to PC and to the exclusives "x360 only" I think in the future I will avoid spending money on T2 products, concentrating my support for companies that effectively support PC gaming.

Bye bye T2, bye bye Rockstar.

If it's anything like GTA4 then I could take or leave another GTA to be honest. Personally I thought Saints Row 2 was bucket loads more fun than GTA4. I'm still playing SR2 for hours and hours after I've finished the main story missions, where as GTA4 went straight into the shelf never to be played again after completeting the story. In fact I was glad to be rid of it and get it finished. Who the hell thought having some one ring you up every minute to take them out for a drink would be fun? As for the DLC, I'm just not interested. GTA4 might have been more gritty and realistic but it certainly wasn't much fun.

Still, on a plus note I'm very much looking forward to Red Dead. Open world cowboy shenanigans? Yes please!

Rockstar North is working on Agent so not surprising.

As Plewt says it's not surprising that the next full GTA won't be here until 2011 with Rockstar North focusing on Agent and probably three new pieces of GTAIV DLC. I'm hoping that at least one of them focuses on the McCreary brothers, or at least what was left of them by the end of the game. Considering The Lost and the Damned's concurrent (with IV) storyline even this wouldn't necessarily be a problem. Packie was one of my favourite characters in the game, and the brothers were quite interesting as well. It'd be nice to see a little more of them. Though not in the manner that more was seen of Congressman Stubbs.

I still haven't even finished TLAD (still not actually completed the full game TBH) so TBOGT and the other one will do me until GTA4: Vice City comes along in 2011.
  • menage #9 3 years ago

I don't even need a new vice city, although it is my favorite GTA so far. It's just the same game with more pink, lightblue and 80s tunes.

    Your point? :)

    "No multiformat GTA next year"
OK, but that doesn't mean there won't be a single-format console exclusive next year...

Vice City + Current Gen = Winner
  • Jonny5Alive7 #13 3 years ago

I'm surprised they would be going for a full blown GTA V so quickly. I thought they would go down the route of the same engine but with a new city, just like Vice City and San Andreas were.

"Rockstar North is working on Agent so not surprising."

They previously juggled between GTA and Manhunt, pretty sure now they'll be juggling between GTA and Agent.

    @svd_grasshopper

You're absolutely right. A year on, that game blows my mind in so many ways. The hype has settled, the gaggle of rubberneckers have moved on, and still GTA4 remains amazing. One of the top 3 best games ever, and this generation's best title by a country mile.
