F.E.A.R. sequel named News

PC Xbox 360 PlayStation 3 News by Robert Purchese

10 September, 2007

Monolith Productions has announced that the name of its F.E.A.R. sequel will be Project Origin.

It was the winning entry in the Name Your Fear competition, which the developer ran during the summer months to help it come up with a title for its new game. You might remember that it couldn't just call it F.E.A.R. 2, because it doesn't actually own the rights to the name - old pal Warner Bros does.

Project Origin was picked above other (and much better) finalists Dark Signal and Dead Echo. But our real favourite was the unrecognised and punchy "THE GIRL IN THE KETCHUP STAINED DRESS".

Head over to Monolith's site for more information, like a Hilarious List of Rejects, or a short video about why a name is so important.

F.E.A.R. is a paranormal and actually very creepy shooter that was released on PC back in 2005. It's had subsequent ports to PS3 and 360, and is due new expansion content later this year.

Head over to our original F.E.A.R. review to see why we're still hiding behind the curtains.

Even backed by the creative talents of their entire community Monolith still manage to select a name which sounds bog standard and frighteningly generic. God. Just make No One Lives Forever 3, please!

Sweet game though.

Monolith Fail.

Gamers fail, you mean. They made the suggestions, and they voted.

Not that F.E.A.R. was a great name to begin with.

I would like to think it was because they limited the compo to the US that was the reason for the best they could come up with being generic crap (US trademark). But it's far more likely to do with the same 'massively imaginative' devs who named the first one F.E.A.R, picking one of the more generic names.

How uninspired....

It'lll be interesting to see how they manage to work that title into the game world. Let me guess....

[Said in a deep gravely voice]
"It's the year 2307... the world makes a scientific breakthrough that the human race wasn't ready for.... this was known as... Project Origin"

Projet Origin is a much better name than F.E.A.R. which was a cheesy acronym in the 80s when it was used for a Fighting Fantasy gamebook.
