Fatal Inertia team "regrets" 360 demo News

PlayStation 3 News by Tom Bramwell

29 April, 2008

Members of the Fatal Inertia development team "really regret" releasing the Xbox 360 demo of the game that caught such flak in the run-up to the game's release last year, lead designer Mike Bond has told Eurogamer.

"Yeah, the 360 demo didn't run well and we really regret releasing it when we did," he said in an exclusive interview. "The final game performed substantially better but still often dropped frames."

This is something that Bond hopes the team has fixed in the upcoming PS3 version, Fatal Inertia EX, which is due for release next month.

"In FI EX, we've dramatically improved the frame-rate again and I think players will be pleasantly surprised," he said. "This combined with a significantly higher game speed makes for a much, much nicer experience."

In fact, the team is confident enough about this to have another crack at a demo, which will have a "significant online multiplayer component" including eight-player support.

"Gamers will be able to try the demo for free and then instantly unlock the full game from the menu," he revealed. "The result, we hope, is that many more people will try the game and, once they play it, will be more than willing to click the purchase button."

The demo did suck ass. I really wonder why the hell crap demo's like that are put out. It only made sure I didn't buy it.

A good demo will pull me over the line, and some games need demo's to get my attention, but this was just counterproductive.

it wasn't frame drops that annoyed me (i was playing in sd, didn't notice...) or a slow speed...

it was the way the vehicles handled like shite, there was no terrain destruction (as was originally promised) and the fact the game seemed like a half-assed attempt to make a futuristic racer.

I don't remember even noticing problems with the frame rate. It just played like crap and was totally uninspiring. Quantum Redshift was way, way better.

I didn't think QR was that good, it lacked atmosphere and I got annoyed with the foreign peeps thing/theme. The Fatal Inertia demo on Xbox was almost a crime against humanity.

Nothing can really beat the WipeOut feeling. Pure Bliss.

So what was a full release on 360 went down so badly that they've opted to make it a PSN game for PS3!! Be interesting to see the price they put on it.

Lucky there's no other highly anticipated futuristic racers coming out next month, or this would get absolutely reamed.

Oh, wait.

This game could be handing out free Mila Kunis bl*wjobs and still noone would touch it. I almost feel sorry for them. It's as if The Getaway or Saint's Row had been released on Monday.

I would also like to see Quntaum Redshift 2 as the original was great and, in my opinion, was better than most of the WipeOuts it competed with. Of course the developers, Curly Monsters, seem to have completely disappeared so if a sequel was made I wouldn't know who would actually make it (the publisher was Microsoft so it could still happen). That said looking forward to WipeOut HD.

PS Unless FI has been fundamentally changed (i.e. made actuallly good) I'll think I'll give it a miss.
