Fatal Inertia Ex gets Euro date News

PlayStation 3 News by Robert Purchese

7 July, 2008

Koei has finally decided on a European date for Fatal Inertia Ex, the improved PS3 version of its futuristic racer.

It arrives here next Tuesday, apparently, which seems a little out of keeping with the routine Thursday PSN refresher. But hey ho.

Fatal Inertia Ex has been out in the US since mid-June and has generally whizzed past the finish line with better marks than its ill-received Xbox 360 cousin.

This is party because it costs around GBP 15, and lets you try a small portion of the game before you're asked to pay and unlock the full package.

It's also faster, has better handling, improved visuals, snazzy weather effects and touched up scenery to occupy your eyes with.

On top of that are a co-operative split-screen Career mode, online leaderboards, a much trickier top difficulty level, weapon tweaks, rumble and motion-sensing support. Plus it should have a much better frame rate.

Look out for our Fatal Inertia Ex review next week.

First!

Downloaded the Demo fro the US store and TBH it wasn't great. No sense of speed or excitement really...

Edit: Damm Second...

It's amazing that this improved game costs less than half the price of the inferior 360 version released last year. I suppose that's some consolation for the having to wait but it's a shame the game still isn't better than OK if the US trial demo is anything to go by. It's just about worth £15 though if you really can't wait for Wipeout HD.

@Darren. In fact the PS3 version is double the price of the 360 version:

It's only £7.99 in HMV and it would be unfair to compare an outdated 360 price don't you agree?

@systems - Well I see your point but the way I look at it when the game was released Xbox 360 owners had to pay £40 for what turned out to be the inferior version. It's only cheaper now because it's been out of six months and sold poorly. The PS3 version isn't the exact same game so, given the choice, I'd rather pay £15 for the improved version as I'm sure would others.

So Sony are doing an extra store update on the day of their E3 press conference. Interesting...

Wild prediction: they'll announce selected "PS2 Classics" (ported not emulated) available via PSN.

What? It might happen.

@Darren

After the lame demo, I can wait. Or spend 2 quid on an old copy of Fusion or 2097 and have a couple of pints while I'm waiting.

Wasn't WOHD meant to be out in a month starting with J??? Like, fookin now?

I bought it from the US store and found it fairly enjoyable for a few days - but considering how badly I wanted WipEout HD, I actually went out and bought a PSP and WipEout Pulse ten days ago to get my fix :), and as I expected (hadn't played WipEout since the '95 original), it's definately in a completely different league than Fatal Inertia.

Too bad I have to play WipEout Pulse either that tiny PSP screen or as rather ugly, pixilated mess that won't fill out more than around 25" of my 40" HDTV using a component cable. So I really still want WipEout HD badly :).

What the hell is the holdup? Hasn't that thing been finished for a couple of months or more now? I'm sure as hell hoping Metacritic just pulled the November 1 release date they are now showing, out of their ass.

Last time I saw Wipeout HD videos it was looking damn fine except for some screen tearing, which Sony promised would be fixed for the final build. I can only assume that the developers are optimising the game. But, you know, when the game is released it'll be the US first then Europe will have to wait months for it just like we are doing for echrochrome and Elefunk. Typical SCEE, innit?

Elefunk isn't out anywhere yet, but both it and Wipeout HD are SCEE developed games so there is no reason to believe we won't get it on the same day or earlier than the US.

You mean except for the fact that it's SCEE we're talking about :p.

I'm just glad I have an Entropay virtual Visa to go with my US store account, because I'm fully expecting us to have to wait at least a few weeks longer than the US - no matter that it's developed by SCEE - and I sort of feel we've all waited just about long enough in general already.
