Far Cry 2 sales hit 1 million mark
In less than three weeks since launch.
Ubisoft has announced that a million copies of Far Cry 2 have now been sold.
That's particularly impressive when you consider the game has been on sale for less than three weeks. It launched in Europe for PC, PS3 and Xbox 360 on 24th October.
"The holiday quarter is off to a solid start with the successful launch of Far Cry 2," said chirpy bossman Yves Guillemot. "The game is well on track to achieve our expectations for the year."
Far Cry 2, in case you've forgotten, is a first-person shooter set in a wartorn African state. And it's a lot of fun - read our review for the full rundown.

Theres nothing wrong with the save system of FarCry, the lower level has lots of save boxes all over the place.

Oooh a million... that's, err... a big number?

Is it? Because I can't tell unless you give me the 3 week sales of some other games launched recently. I'm sure I've heard of games selling that in the first week of launch.

Vacuous PR soundbite from the man who owns the company. How inspiring.

I did. And you said (amongst other things),
"Far Cry 2's taste for realism is a mixed blessing. It's hard to locate the fun in guns that jam unpredictably and cars that need to be ceaselessly nannied, especially when it's a spanner in the works of a machine that otherwise runs on skill (and, in the guns' case, arguably just a cheap way of adding tension to an unremarkable battle)."
"...the game is, ironically, at its most artificial at the very moments it thinks it's being realistic. The idea that any car can be fixed by repeatedly tightening a single screw in the radiator is just as ridiculous as a floating health-pack when you get down to it, and the malaria you've been saddled with is pure stage-management, an artificial means of prodding you into a series of repetitive side-missions to obtain drugs."
"AI very occasionally pulls off some odd tactics, such as leaving the safety of a mounted gun to drive twenty feet and try ramming you with a Ford Capri."
"...the game grinds against itself, its onscreen prompts and collectables wildly at odds with a design that ensures each gun you find has a believably finite lifespan. This shorthand is definitely preferable to a deeper, but more frustrating mechanic (each time I magically fixed my car, I offered a silent prayer of thanks that there wasn't some arcane mini-game where I actually had to repair specific engine problems) but it does make you question why Ubisoft insisted on going even halfway with the artifice in the first place."
All of which sound like they detract from the fun. You gave it an 8/10... which is 8 points higher than I give this advertisment-masquerading-as-a-new-item. I hope Ubisoft paid you well.
