Another generic male character suffering from "cunt hair" syndrome.

Sigh.

Looks immense. CoD4, crossed with Far Cry 1, with a healthy dose of STALKER.

As long as they get the basic game design right such as the FPS control and it isn't rushed out (*ahem* Ubisoft..), then it could be epic. I'm guessing it might be a prime candidate for a delay though, as there is always one big game delayed around that time of year, and with the kind of ambition this is showing it looks like it might be the one to fit the bill. If it means it's as good as it can be (and as I said before, not rushed out), then that's fine though.

Really looking forward to this :)

After the hyped up game reviews surrounding the original Far Cry (tech demo), I'll be waiting and watching before purchasing this.

/Expects backlash for calling Far Cry a "tech demo"

Openworld? Check.
Fresh and interesting setting? Check.
Ironsights? Check.
RPG bits? Check.
Friendly editor? Check.

Okay, now I'm really excited about the game. I couldn't find a single nit to pick in this article, and I usually like to take a cautious attitude. Together with the steadily approaching STALKER: Clear Sky, this is a very good time to be a FPS afficionado.

On another note, it's slightly ironic that the franchise only really prospers out of the hands of the original developers, but what the heck..

I still think Far Cry suffered Dreamcast-PS2 -esque levels of harmful anticipation for the other big releases of the day (Doom 3 and Half-Life 2) - I preferred Far Cry myself (even if it got a little bit B-movie like near the end).

Like SomanticSense said - could be very good if they get the CoD4+FarCry+Stalker elements to gel together coherently - look forward to a review/demo.

Woo, level editor for the console versions :)

I have to say the level editor in Far Cry Instincts on 360 was probably the best bit of the game, you could make some awesome stuff. Then again, all I did was make very very tall islands and base jump off them. Into various different items. Oh well :)

I'm actually quite looking forward to this one - I loved the original Far Cry and all the ingredients in this seem to be coming together nicely.

The videos so far look great. Just as long as the missions stay interesting and varied and the story and environments are well structured, I think I may very well be sold.

PC version, natch. :)

"Redding describes the console versions as comparable to a "medium load-out on PC", and warns us that, "graphically you're going to notice slight differences". Which we did. The Xbox 360 was the better of the two with its anti-aliasing, but both looked unspectacular and even drab in points. Far from ugly, mind you."

Given the huge differences in quality between Far Cry on the PC and the inferior console "reimagining" on the Xbox and the terrible terrible Xbox 360 "port", it wouldn't surprise if again the PC version came out on top. An Xbox 360 and PS3 with a measly 512 MB in total cannot compete with a mid-range PC with 2 GB of RAM running dual or quad-core CPU and a 512 MB graphics card, no way! LOL

Far Cry always struck me as a game far more suited to the PC anyway with its huge open world and lush visuals so I just cannot imagine it being anywhere near as good on the consoles.

Tbh the way this game looks, whilst very impressive, is not one of the things that really makes it stand out to me. The actual gameplay sounds imaginative and involving, and that will work equally well on any platform.

"On the point about graphics, how come Crytek said they could get gfx that were close High settings on consoles with their engine yet this is only medium!?"

Words such as high and medium are pretty subjective. Maybe FC2 on medium looks as good as Crysis on high? What does Pacman look like with its gfx set to high? Who knows.

Has Rob not played the original FarCry? If you swam out too far you didn't drown. You got picked up on radar (don't ask me how) and a helicopter quickly came by and shot you into bite-sized gibblets.

great the PS3 comes off worst :) good news then ... lol

game looks good!

I did watch 2 blu ray movies over the weekend though + one upscaled DVD... i must admit, for some reason it's not really working with a 32" TV... DVD/BluRay looks the same to me (either good upscaling, or TV to small, or I am getting old. could be any of that).

might have to buy a 60" TV just to be sure, my wife thinks that it is to big for the flat... tssss ss women!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !111

You've found me out! Have amended so it is less lie-based.

the screenshot with the boat in has a zebra standing to the side of the river and my first thought was: 'will I be able to shoot it?', followed by 'will that get me an achievement?'

Damn, beaten to the Midwinter comparison. Actually Midwinter 2: Flames of Freedom was set on islands off the coast of Africa and involved you, er, using lots of different transport options to find people, befriend them and do missions for them! Still, it was great, so no worries.

Looking forward to this, it looks beautiful and should be great, although I hope the missions offer some variety, or at least there is plenty of varied set-pieces to have gunfights in.

Still a bit sceptical, though. All of Ubi Montreal's previous Far Cry games have been shit.

From what I've seem om clips etc it looks nice. People might think there is a glut of FPS games, but high quality ones are thin on the ground (not all FPS games appeal to all people).

The only thing that I find alittle bit of a shame in these games is that there trying to be as realistic as possible and then they go and make up a fictional place. :D

Mmkay. First of all, I'm not sure that anyone is arguing that this will look as good on the XBox as the PC version. The opposite, in fact. Secondly, everyone except you seems to realise that even if anyone WAS saying that, it's meaningless to make a direct hardware comparison between PC and consoles.
