Great news, I thought this was a 2009 game!!

I saw the running demo at a recent gaming event, was moderately impressed, the videos make it look much better than it actually is. Still, headed for atleast a 7/10

So that makes it seven games on my October list - several of them rather huge in scope. I guess I'll have to take a vacation :p.

How easy it is these days to be influenced by PR bullshit and hype. Wonder how long LBP will be played and remembered.
Having only console now, I still feel sorry that I can't play Far Cry in the moment, even after 4 years.Most FPS fans will not look twice at their priority lists, and will buy Far Cry.
Having said that, I'm totally aware, that even the two mentioned games will have their fans. I's just that there are not many who combine playing these 2 genres, so Far Cry 2 makers and publishers should not worry.
I also think that this game is creating much excitement already, because simple fact, that Far Cry (1, if you will) was much underrated game in comparison to others at that time (Half Life2, for example, which not only I found shit and overhyped), and much more (re)playable.

Could be an amazing game, it's the open world that's the magic of this game. An almost limitless amount of ways to approach any situation, as I said could be amazing.

You hit just the essence- FPS in an open world, a dream come true for many. Still remembering the games like Operation Flashpoint, and Far Cry of course. The open world in games is such a fascination, even in other genres (Oblivion and possible Fallout, for example), that is easy to overlook some minor flaws in such games. As for Operation Flashpoint, it still counts as one of my best game experiences, with all the problems, which game had, and would still rather played it as some of todays shooters as totally limited Call Of Duty clones. That was my second FPS experience, and afterwards it went all downhill untill Far Cry, that is.
Half Life was nothing in comparison for me, being totally scripted, like on rails FPS. I wonder when will publishers understand, that
money lies in open world games, yes, even shooters.
I am ready to overlook some issues, like AI and typical Far cry ones, like spotting you miles away through jungle on account of open, non scripted world.

This year is the most loaded with great games I can ever remember, and last year was incredible. With this, GOW2, COD5, Fable 2, POP,L4Dead,Nuts and Bolts etc....

Yeah, because the first open world shooter you mention (Far Cry) was such a bestseller... not. Unlike Half-Life 2. Not trying to argue about the merits of open world games, but those have hefty cost to develop and if you don't have a major license (read: GTA) it's not that profitable to do games like that, accompanied by a long development time in which you won't see any revenue at all. There's better business to find in the games market.

The original Far Cry wasn't an 'open world' game. Sure the corridors were larger than most games but it was still basically on rails. Far Cry 2 is a true 'open world' game like GTA. It has a map bigger than Oblivions. It looks awesome and I can't wait to get it. Game of the Year, possibly if the story and A.I is good. GTA4 got all the sychopancy from the reviewers, even though the combat was archaic and the game was far too easy (lock-on, shoot, lock-on, shoot, repeat). But this game is basically the same style as GTA4 but with far better combat, far better graphics and far better physics and an unbelievable map-editor. If the A.I and story match then I expect a 10/10.
