Far Cry 2 DLC to cost 800 MS Points News

Xbox 360 PlayStation 3 News by Ellie Gibson

24 November, 2008

Ubisoft has revealed how much you'll have to pay for the new Far Cry 2 downloadable content.

As reported earlier, the Fortune's Pack will include three new weapons and vehicles. You'll also get four new multiplayer maps.

A Ubisoft rep told Eurogamer the Xbox 360 version of the pack pack will cost 800 Microsoft Points. That's equivalent to GBP 6.80 / EUR 9.60 in the old money.

The same pack will cost EUR 9.99 if you're buying it via PlayStation Network. A UK price has yet to be confirmed.

There's still no word on an exact release date, though Ubi has promised the Fortune's Pack will be released by the end of November.

Same price as the call of duty 4 map pack, but from the brief go of multiplayer (loving single player by the way) it was a bit pants.... And why would we bother when such an in depth map maker included in the game anyway?

Silenced shotgun though! Oh my, if it looks and sounds as good as the other weapons in the game, it has the potential to be superb along with the crossbow!

I never finished FarCry 2. Started playing it, saw some immediate issues, persisted until eventually I just lost interest. Really hoped for better things.

who gives a shit.... FarCry 2 was such a disapointing game for me, Ubisoft wasn't up for the challenge. Unimpressive graphics, boring gameplay, elements that are supose to give immersion are nothing but a waste of time that will frustrate even the most enthusiastic fan... bought it for my PC, waste of money.

Underneath it all it's a fantastic game, there's just some odd design decisions that make it a chore to play at times.

All it needs is a couple of tweaks/mods to really allow the game to be excellent. Silenced shotguns won't do it (though it will allow some to play out their "No Country for Old Men" fantasies), but Slower respawn times and a better faction dynamic could work wonders.

my eyes are fine thkx :) maybe for console standards they are but not for me... and even in consoles you can find equal or better graphics. Im not a hater, but this game is far from beign great in my opinion, drive "and a lot" from point A to poin B, to repeat the same kind of missions, kill some baddies. Story is poor, script is poor, shooting mechanics are average and every element they added to gameplay, defective weapons, your jeep have a malfunction etc... the way the worked thouse things is not fun at all, they deviate the player from the action, in papper they must have sounded pretty good but in the end is boring and frustrating.

Really enjoyed this game, but the ending was a total anti-climax, disappointing given the quality of the rest of the game. DLC seems overpriced, all you're really getting is 3 new guns and a couple of vehicles [which could have been held back from the retail release], given the map editor already gives you a potentially endless stream of new maps from other users. I think 400msp would have been more reasonable. You'd have thought the Horse Armour debacle in the early days of the 360 would have put an end to this nonsense, but hey ho. No sale.

This really is a marmite game, were as some hate this with a passion, this for me is game of the year, and is probably the best single player FPS I've ever played. The driving which annoy's alot of people actually add's to the atmosphere for me, and where as checkpoint respawns at first seemed a little odd, it kind of makes sense as the game world would be pretty bare if you cleared all the checkpoints and they didn't respawn. Maybe a slightly longer respawn time would of improved things, or being able to see another group of merc's etc drive up to and re take up positions would of been even better.

Maybe I'm on my own but taking out checkpoints with a mac.10 and grenade launcher just doesn't get boring! :-)

Sounds like poor value to me for what is really four new multiplayer maps, which themselves are somewhat pointless since the game ships with a level designer.

How about fixing the issues with the game before taking more money from us??

I think we should be able to get money back, after so much time invested in the game only for it to fail!!

I can appreciate the real world nature of the check points being remanned but it's a game play killer for me. There are several better ways to address imho. For instance they can be restaffed at the end of the current mission or on starting a new mission. They could be respawned in line with the day night cycle i.e. whenever you sleep.

However doing a mission on the other side of the map with the infuriating jeeps charging head long at you every time the road forks, is made worse by replaying the same encounters on the way back to pick up the next mission.

Sure it's pricey, if you get all willy nilly about it, but whatever. I mean, it's new shiny weapons for the price of a burger, I can handle it. Maybe it's just me being Norwegian, I'm just used to stuff being pricey, I dunno.

I put FC2 on hold when I got Fallout though, but it'll be nice to pick it back up again. I just got to the south map aswell, so new map, new weapons, sounds like a good deal to go back to. I really loved the game anyways, but I mean, Fallout came out, yeah.

C'mon! 7 quid is still a rip.

Maps, few guns and vehichle... doesnt matter if you double that, 7quid is still too much unless you've completed the whole game and still play it all the time online. People are able to make their own maps which adds the variety the hardcore crave surely?

Releasing this DLC so FAST after the release of the actual game means only one thing: It was a part of the original game that should have been included in the DVD/Blu Ray disc as actual content and not as DLC.

My only critisim of FC2 was the lack of local multiplayer. So much fun was had on FC:Predator doing MP on our own levels even though the main game was beyond pants.

Games designers: no local MP is a CRIME. If COD4 can do it and rawk then the rest of you can. No excuses, especially from a big name house like Ubi.

How much does this DLC cost on PC? Or does it appear there at all? I presume they'll release it shortly afterwards for free.

This kind of shit is increasingly irritating to me. The games already cost more on Xbox/PS3 and then they try to charge another €10 for the kind of thing that was given away free in the past.

Multi-player maps especially should be given away free IMO: if you're booted from a game because the host/server switches to one of these new maps then that just increases the chance of people deciding "fuck that" and going to play something else.

Fair point, in fact i'd never thought of the respawning being done in the ways you mention, that would to be honest make much better sense that what we currently have. As much as I love this game, and as much as I enjoy the checkpoint battles, it does grate a little when taking on a mission close to a checkpoint which you have just cleared, only for it to repawn almost as soon as they are out of view, for you to run straight into on your attempted escape after you have done the mission objective etc.

"Im not a hater, but..."

But... yes you are. Pretty much all of your previous posts on this site have made that perfectly clear. If this was an article about PSN content for the PS3 version you would be hoovering it up.

FarCry 2 is pretty impressive graphically. I had no issues with that at all.

My issues were more about the piss poor controls, bizarre respawning angry population (a single guy in the middle of nowhere will effectively commit suicide by driving into my jeep carrying a hige gun), and ridiculous trawiling back and forth the countryside (fighting said respawning madmen).

Edit: incidentally, why didn't you buy FC2 on your PS3 instead of your PC?

It'll have to come out for free on the PC because the content is so appallingly tiny that someone will mod the new stuff in just to make Ubi look bad/worse.

FC2 singleplayer died for me on the basis that there was no point in any of the random-encounter-style fighting. In fact, every time you fought on the way to a mission reduced your ammo and weapon status, such that avoiding fights or simply taking all of the checkpoints/patrols out with the jeep turret was always the way to go. Driving like a mad thing around/through the checkpoints was sometimes fun, but your jeep would inevitably get tagged a few times, allowing the bastards to catch you up.

Finished Far Cry 2 and loved it. A liked the 'Man on a Mission' type scenario. Also being able to go at your own pace and approach as you see fit. Keeping hold of it for the multiplayer but not really given it a go to be honest. What I would like is a mission select whereby you can go back and select any of the missions you desire (some of them were great). 800 points for the DLC? Not sure to be honest.

The graphics are shit hot, you are blind.

Er, no, they aren't. Sometimes, when the lighting is just right, it looks pretty good. Mose of the time though, it looks mediocre at best. Coming from Crysis: Warhead and even Stalker: Clear Sky to this was a bit of a shock.

Wouldn't have mattered much if it would have been a good game, unfortunately I thought it was pretty bad.

I reckon you could make a really good game out of the engine and assets of Far Cry 2... but Far Cry 2 ain't it. It's not horrendous, but the thing is, it has small problems... and it BLANKETS you in those small problems. The checkpoints being the most obvious example.

(and yes, without disdaining FC2's visuals, Clear Sky does look better -- I do wonder if Far Cry 2's low-res world textures are an artifact of having to load so much into memory with that great big one-load world. I think it's a price worth paying, as more games should be as 'load-light' as FC2, but if it's possible to have the best of both worlds, then obviously that'd be a treat.

This is definitely a purchase for me. This game is wonderful imo. For all the people saying, what's the point of new maps when you can make your own. In ranked multiplayer you can only use the maps that come with the game. So this will be a fresh couple of maps for the hardcore.

Dunno whether I can justify the purchase that I've made, as if I had already completed the game I might not have bothered, but the timing was such that I was half way through the game and craving some more variety. It's not much but you can't really complain with a sawn off double-barrel shotgun.
