Fallout 3 to be patched on all platforms

Bethesda still non-committal about when.

Bethesda has broken silence and confirmed an upcoming patch for all three versions of Fallout 3.

Community manager "Gstaff" gave word on the Bethesda forum, but said nothing about when the update will arrive or what will be in it.

Unfortunately, all three versions of Fallout 3 seem to be suffering from bugs, and the PC, PS3 and Xbox 360 forums are stuffed with examples of them.

Bethesda spokesperson Pete Hines told us at the beginning of the month that Trophy support for the PS3 version of Fallout 3 was planned, and that the developer was looking into the PC problems.

These bugs are unlikely to go unchecked, of course, but it's nice to know something is definitely being done - because Fallout 3 is brilliant when it does work.

Head over to our Fallout 3 gamepage for platform comparisons, our review, and our live interview with Pete Hines.

Might have a look at the forums, didn't know this had problems. Thankfully I haven't got to far in or spent any real time with it yet to see any bugs (too much to play at the mo). By the time I'm ready to dedicate some time to Fallout the patch should be done.

Hurrah! And about time also. Any chance of getting my dead Megaton NPCs resurrected?
  • Xerx3s #4 3 years ago

I see that they haven't learned from oblivion then? Couldn't finish the game because it crashed at the very last moment. Publishers should give a partial refund if you can't finish the game and they are unwilling to fix it.

It's like going to a film and being unable to watch the last 20 minutes because the projector broke. Why are gamers so sheepishly accepting crap like this?

Daikon: Put up a spoiler warning, will you?
  • TedMoseby #6 3 years ago

Out of the 50-odd hours I've been playing so far, I've only seen 2 bugs: Walter vanishing at Megaton, and the junkyard robots not appearing at Big Town so that I can show the residents how to repair them.

If anyone's holding off from looking at Fallout 3 because of bugs, I'd recommend you just give it a try anyway, it's a fantastic game.

"Daikon: Put up a spoiler warning, will you?"

That's not a spoiler. NPCs in Megaton like to accidentally fall down from the walkways and die.
  • SteveB #8 3 years ago

I've only experienced 1 crash in 75hrs play so far, but it sounds like I need to keep a few saves going when I near the end.

"NPCs in Megaton like to accidentally fall down from the walkways and die. "

Ah, didn't know about that. Was thinking about the other thing. That bug was already there in oblivion, so they didn't even bothered to fix it cross game. lazy fucks.

    @TedMoseby

Same here, 50+ hours & only had the robots missing from the junkyard in Big Town.
Not noticed any more bugs and Walter is still paying me for scrap metal.
Mind you I haven't got to the end yet so we'll see.
  • Daikon #11 3 years ago

    @Xerx3s:

No spoiler alert needed. They shouldn't be dead, they fell to their deaths due to a bug.

Edit: As UncleLou also pointed out ;)

Oh and I totally agree with TedMoseby. Despite some minor niggles (which hopefully will be patched soon) Fallout 3 is the game of the year for me.
The game is huge, and just amazing. Totally worth every penny.
  • Fayt #13 3 years ago

It keeps crashing when I visit Rivet city, every single time without fail, meaning some quests are currently inaccessible to me. Minor bugs are acceptable with such an ambitious game, but for things like this to happen it's simply unacceptable, especially when you consider the price of games. It's easily the buggiest and most broken game I've ever had the displeasure of playing, which is a shame as everything is in place for a fantastic experience and indeed it is when everything is working as it should.

why do I bother getting games on release date ?? may as well get them when they are a year old on budget and patched .
  • krudster #15 3 years ago

70 hours - no bugs, no crashes. Luck of the draw I guess/
  • LOLLERS #16 3 years ago

There really shouldn't be any repeatable crashes just trying to access certain areas, otherwise they'd have definately done a patch already because that's totally broken. Have you tried looking at the disc to see if your 360 has scratched it up? This happened to me with Fable recently, it's a known hardware fault but you can't get it repaired for free and MS won't replace your discs...

PC ver - Completed once 50 odd hours and few crashes, texture problems now and again but nothing game breaking. Had the the NPC bugs in megaton (jericho took a swan dive off a walk way) but can be fixed with the console

Game of the year for sure.

still awaiting vampirism bug fix for Oblivion GOTY on the PS3. YAY BETHESDA.
  • riz23 #19 3 years ago

I was going to say I haven't seen any bugs on my 360 game and then I read TedMoseby's comment about Walter disappearing. He is the guy you can sell scrap to after you fix the water pipes right? I just thought he was always somewhere else when I was looking for him. Now I know better! Oh dear.
  • Fayt #20 3 years ago

Other people have had the same issue and as far as I can see my disc looks fine, but thanks for trying to help anyway. It might have something to do with certain 360 consoles compatability with the game, or more likely people haven't done whatever it is that triggers the bugs. Whatever it is, some people have had next to no problems (in which case I'm happy for you, for being able to enjoy a fantastic game without any problems), whilst others like me are left feeling frustrated at some serious bugs (or whatever it is they are) which I sure hope the incoming patch will swat.

50 hours (and still a lot to go) and so far I've gotten the infamous (but easily fixable) PS3 G.O.A.T. test bug and three hard system freezes. Not exactly catastrophic.

I should have listened to the naysayers who said this is basically Oblivion with guns. And I absolutely hated Oblivion. At least I tried it before rejecting it. It seems demos are something of the past.
  • makeamazing #23 3 years ago

Kinda happy that i cannot play this till Xmas... so hopefully trophies and patches will be done by then...hopefully
  • Meho #24 3 years ago

Playing it on Xbox 360 for about ten hours I didn't experience any significant bugs. On PC, after twenty hours of gameplay, I'd say it has quite a lot of them (missing textures, missing map pointers) and some of them are pretty bad (failure to load the next area, game crashing once or twice on me). However, despite all this, I also think this is my GOTY easily - bought the collector's edition and all...

Wayyyy back in the mists of time a younger me eagerly bought Fallout 2 from the Tower Records in Piccadilly Circus. I discovered only after hours of play that it was the "ELV - English Low Violence" version and that Interplay were never going to patch it. The bug I encountered made the main quest unfinishable. Luckily, the nice lady at Virgin Interactive sent me a new game disc with the proper, patchable full gore version on. So, stupid bugs and patches are a tradition in Fallout games. The Fallout 2 buglist makes for very entertaining reading!
