Fallout 3 GOTY date still non-committal

Plus: XBL treat for owners of all DLC.

Bethesda has told Eurogamer there is still no specific date for Fallout 3: Game of the Year Edition, which supposedly arrives here next month on PC, PS3 and Xbox 360.

Inside are all five DLC add-ons plus the original game, and all for the price of a regular retail release.

That's galling to any who splashed out 800 Microsoft Points (£6.80/€9.60) on each of the five additions as they became available on Xbox 360 and PC, particularly as most were riddled with bugs.

To ease that pain, Bethesda announced today that a free Premium XBL theme will be given to those with a full compliment of downloadable content. On its own, the theme costs 240 MSP (£2/€2.90). The theme goes live on 1st October.

Meanwhile, PS3 owners still await their first piece of Fallout 3 DLC, after testing delays pushed the content to September. And that add-on will be Broken Steel rather than Operation: Anchorage, as content-wise that makes more sense.

Does anyone on the inside know when we can expect PS3 version of DLC to start trickling through? Is it still on track for September?

So do I get the free Premium Theme for downloading all the DLC for the PC version, which uses Games for Windows LIVE and is linked to my Xbox 360 gamer profile?

    No?

    Thought not. :(

Yeah, a free theme, that will make it feel any better. You can pick up hardcopy (disc) bundles of the DLC for as little as 14 euro over at thehut.com! Not only do you actually own the content, it's cheaper as well.

Come to think of it, this is just a very cheap and disrespectful way of Bethesda to get people to buy the not so good DLC versions.
  • cianchristopher #6 2 years ago

Don't worry, PS3 owners. Each and every one of these DLC titles had technical issues when they were released on 360.

Pretty shabby workmanship from Bethesda methinks! (and I like Fallout 3)

Even better still, if you have a Lovefilm account, you can rent the DLC discs, install the content on your hard drive and then send them back again. Okay, that doesn't get you MZ, but it's still cheaper than buying each piece individually.

True, but I like to own the actual disc.

"...a full compliment of downloadable content."

    I think you mean "complement".

No sale. I didn't buy any of the DLC, but I'm still done with Fallout 3. It was good, but I have no desire to play it anymore. Bring on Fallout: New Vegas, made by significantly more talented developers.

    @EarlBassett:

Hang on, by not buying one of the expansions doesn't that save you like six pounds? Versus a £2.40 theme that's not quite so bad surely?

I've been holding out for the re-release as it looks like it'll be less than all the expansions. Sadly this means my progress has also slowed, as I'd quite like to get that level cap increase into play before I hit twenty. Currently I'm at fourteen, so it's probably not so far off. Guess I'll have to stretch it out a bit longer.

Sure, I'll take a premium Fallout theme.

I feel like I'm completely finished with Fallout 3 now though. All 1550 achievement points done, got all the special weapons and loot, done all the quests, everything. Then again, final playtime came down to just under 230 hours, so I guess I've had my fill.

Now let us know what Fallout: Vegas is all about.
  • Flying_Pig #13 2 years ago

Hmmm. Majority of online retailers reckon this is coming 16th October

    Fingers crossed

I didn't buy the content, because I knew it would be coming on disc eventually and I was happy enough to wait.

Not sure why those who downloaded it right away are complaining though. You bought it when it was released, and paid full price for it. No different than buying, say Halo 3 and then seeing it on sale for £20 at the end of the year.

A free theme, oh great, well it'd better be a damn good one. What's more galling is that although I've downloaded all the DLC, I've still not got around to playing them yet, doh!

Taking their sweet time with the PS3 versions though aren't they, whats the hold up?
  • Pastici #16 2 years ago

I haven't heard anyone who bought them right away complaining. It's other people trying to make us feel bad for the fact we've bought them all, not quite sure why! A theme is nice though
  • MaxHughes #17 2 years ago

I'm putting off buying Fallout 3 due to this so called GOTY edition. And now Bethesda say they don't have a set date, it's making want to go and buy it now :(
  • makeamazing #18 2 years ago

I suspect this will be delayed... I sold my original PS3 copy earlier in the year and am waiting patiently for this. But considering they havent released any of the 5 on DLC yet, I dont have hope for the October date. I wouldnt be surprised if this slips to November at the earliest or...scared to say January :|
  • Machetazo #19 2 years ago

Would be nice if they could lock down the GOTY version's release date, but there's no point fretting over that having not yet happened.
  • metalangel #20 2 years ago

Or: 'not enough people bought Zeta because it was shit'.

Does anyone care about themes any more? NXE makes it pretty hard to see much of the background unless you scroll entirely to the right so there's only one thing onscreen.

I just finished my last mission tonight after 116 hours play. It was a good few weeks, but I feel a little burnt out! Only got the Broken Steel DLC for the level cap (boo-urns!), the rest didn't interest me, but I can understand why people want to wait for the GOTY edition.

Now, I need a a few short games! No more RPGs for a while methinks!

  • swissorc #23 2 years ago

I don't know about anyone else but I'm still going through Eldar Scrolls on PC must have cranked up about 200 hours on that game and still not done when games are this big who needs dlc at the end of the day a 100 hr game for 40 squid is still good value especially when you have twats who give you 3 hour campaigns and justify their price tag with multiplayer I'm looking at you gears of war (not 2) halo 3 (yet not original or 2 hmm interesting) and COD. Vote with you feet people don't buy shoddy dlc just because you loved the original I for one would love FEAR2 only because I loved the first one but I know like everyone else it's just not worth my cash
  • guernican #24 2 years ago

"awww no dlc? shucks guess you shouldnt have bought a shitstation3"

You missed a perfect opportunity to coin the phrase "gaystation".

Unimaginative as well as a cretinous troll. Nature's cruel.
