Fallout 3 given European date News

PC Xbox 360 PlayStation 3
News by Tom Bramwell

20 August, 2008

Fallout 3 will be released on 31st October in Europe, Bethesda Softworks has announced.

The developer's long-awaited modernisation of the classic RPG is one of the most highly-anticipated multiformat games of the year, due out on PS3, 360 and PC.

The player develops his or her character during an accelerated, playable childhood, in Vault 101, establishing abilities and then heading out into the world in search of daddy.

Once out in the open, the player has to deal with all sorts of conflicting post-apocalyptic groups and use the game's many discrete systems to overcome the threat they pose - including the amusing VATS system that allows you to pause and target multiple enemy parts. The combat's considered a hybrid of classic turn-based and real-time combat.

Look out for Eurogamer's review closer to release. You can check out our most recent Fallout 3 hands-on preview and this week's interview with Bethesda Softworks' Pete Hines for more details.

Was not actually expecting it so soon, excellent.

But, damn it, it's the same week as LBP! :(

Ign were coming their pants over it while eurogamer were much more critical. Interesting. Hopefully it will gain praise generally though. I'm looking forward to it, despite having to watch zoomed in constant heads for hours jibber jabbering. Mass Effect nailed that problem... pretty much.

Uh.. no. You gave Oblivion 10/10, remember? Your review of Bethesda games have no value for me.

LBP is the 29th of October, not the 31st. I reckon I'll get LBP and wait on Fallout for a bit.

DanMW: my feelings too.

This and LBP.. too much goodness at once.

I don't want to rush any of them so am likely to put a couple back for Christmas (certainly one of the RPG's so i can take my time with the other).

Oddly i hope that Bethsoft delay as normal now.

"EVERYTHING MUST LAUNCH IN TIME FOR CHRISTMASS!!!" The matra of the games industrie, with as a result many failing titles that could just so easely have launched in summer. You know, the time of year when allot of people have time of from work and school....ideally suited for playing games and going to movies......

Hollywood knows, why doesn't the games industrie??

@Freek

Ninja Gaiden 2 and Soulcalibur IV was more than enough for me this summer. I have more time for playing games during the winter months. Too cold to be outside. So i like it the way it is. I dont sit inside playing games when theres above 30 Celsius ouside. Im swimming in the ocean with my girls. I live on the beach btw.

Could there be just one Fallout 3 thread that doesn't have people whinging about Oblivion? It was a great game. And as for games being "dumbed down" for consoles...the PC crowd need to get over themselves. Like they're a bunch of f@cking professors or something. If they were that smart they wouldn't be shelling out a grand for a machine that will be obsolete a day later when the next graphics card comes out and shat on by viruses the day after that.

Oh, I'm writing this on my virus-free MacBook, by the way.

I feel your pain, 2008 has been one expensive year... but then with so many high quality games these past 12-18 months, and many more coming out over the next year its a sacrifice im willing to make :D

Just wait 3 or 4 months and I guarantee most of the above list will be available from Gamestation in a 2 for £40 deal because of the abundance of trade ins.
