Fallout 3 DLC pushed to September News

PlayStation 3 News by Robert Purchese

14 July, 2009

Bethesda has delayed the first batch of Fallout 3 downloadable content for PlayStation 3 until September, citing the need for more testing.

The company has also decided that Broken Steel will be the first add-on available, because it's "easily the most requested DLC from our fans," according to Bethesda's Ashley Chen, writing on the US PlayStation blog. Broken Steel raises the level cap to 30 and opens the game past the conclusion of the main campaign.

Chen says Operation: Anchorage and The Pitt will follow "shortly thereafter" and probably simultaneously, with Point Lookout and Mothership Zeta to be available "as soon as we can".

We've asked Bethesda whether this will affect the October release of Fallout 3: Game of the Year Edition, which bundles all five pieces of DLC.

Our PC/Xbox 360 reviews of Operation: Anchorage, The Pitt, Broken Steel and Point Lookout can be found elsewhere on Eurogamer.

I hate delays, can't any developer/publisher release anything on time these days?

At least we'll get them in the correct order.

On the downside I can see the following happening...

PS3 players wait for GotY edition and buy that
Bethesda say DLC didn't sell very well on PS3, we're doing no more.

It's a good call actually. It's a great game, one of the ones I enjoy playing most on my 360, but the DLC had some major flaws with it. The Pitt for example took them a few attempts to get it right.

It's better to wait for quality than have a shoddy job rushed out. If PS3 owners get to play it without the flaws, the better for it. :)

I can also say it's well worth the wait.

Given the probs the 360 DLC had, I think an extra bit of testing is probably a very good idea.

I expected to get back into this, but I've not really gone there after so long waiting for the level cap to be lifted (hope you've learned a lesson here Bethesda). And it still gauls me that I need to buy BS to lift the cap, when "Mongo's Journey's in Swampland" is really the only expansion I'm interested in.

Man that sucks, i'm currently at level 18 on my second run through ready for the DLC now...will probably wait until GOTY edition but won't the DLC delay push back the retail version until next year now?

Thought this was going to be about the alien DLC content that's due soon. *Breathes a sigh of relief*
